What is the most awesome thing you've heard a pre-med do that actually relates to being premed? 😀

being accepted to medical school and (eventually) no longer being pre-med.

But really, I think the most awesome activities are fun/random things people do that do NOT relate to premed (research, hospital volunteer, shadowing, etc.)

I know a guy who flew to Uganda once to help the locals there by checking their blood pressure and handing out condoms.

He now has a new facebook picture, so that's pretty cool I guess!!!11!1

Join SDN - you may of heard of him, he goes by MedPR.

Also, can't forget about catinthehat - what he did was truly amazing.

Yo man I did good work over there don't hate. By the way, ftfy ^

But really, the most amazing thing I was able to do which actually relates to medicine is: sedate, intubate, and monitor the anesthesia of a pig which was undergoing an experimental surgery.

Observation is cool, but getting to be a part of the surgical team (even for a pig) was incredibly eye-opening and cemented my conviction for getting into med school.

Are you referring to the girl who was accepted to HMS before admissions decisions were released?

I believe so, or at least that was my impression. I mean.. to be called 3 months in advance of decisions to be notified of your acceptance. That's pretty great.

I was in a rock band in college that received press from one of the large national newspapers (rhymes with Two Pork Limes). We recorded an album and toured within a 100 mile radius of our college...you know, because we were supposed to still be college students at the time. It sounds sort of cool, but I don't think it was worth the offset in GPA.

I met someone on the interview trail who interned with CNN for a summer. Apparently that's all her interviewer wanted to talk about.

dude that sounds awesome. You sound awesome :=|:-):

Did underwater hockey. Pretty fun.

She actually started an orphanage in Rwanda that is still thriving years later

The most awesome thing I've done as a pre-med was becoming a foster and adoptive parent. So many kids need help here at home, let alone those in foreign countries.

Look for arborvitae('s) best of SDN thread for the full version (on second thought I think catinthehat's original thread may have been deleted, but if you're diehard enough you can prolly find a cached version on Google, but seriously look for arborvitae('s) thread it's gold!). In the short he was accepted early in the cycle to a DO school ( ACOM I believe) but was rescinded for posting racist crap on FB. Plus his identity was made public.
