Does anyone agree that a beautiful campus tends to attract people with a broader and balanced background? Which beautiful campus has students with the broadest life experiences?

NYCOM, no doubt. Old Westbury is gorgeous and the diversity and broad range of students at NYCOM is without equal. 👍

beautfiul campus==== try unecom, nycom is TINY and has one pond that ppl are are attracted to

I would have to throw in a bid for UNECOM. The campus is a bit small, but it's right on the ocean, and you can literally walk to the beach. I go running on the beach during lunch. The view of the Saco river from the library is absolutely amazing (hence I can't study there), the area is so colorful during the fall it's great. diversity in life experience and interests is broad; we have people right out of college to people with master's degrees, those that have been out in the field working, and even a real cool grandmother in one of our classes. Cultural diversity, on the other hand, is not very broad, but something that is being worked on. That's my story, and i'm sticking to it! 😀

I haven't been to UNECOM, but I was definately struck by the area surrounding the NYCOM campus. :dunno:

LECOM-Erie will definitely be one of the last on the list. 🙄 But, I'm not going to medical school to study landscaping  I have seen UNECOM, however, and it is really nice there though.

I actually had a DO I talked to over the phone about the profession and what medicine was like tell me why he chose OUCOM.

He liked the campus.

Seriously that was it. We both had a laugh on the phone about it.

I interviewed at a few schools so I'll put in my .02 worth of judgement.

UHS (whatever its name is now) - small campus in the middle of a city neighborhood. You can see downtown Kansas City in the background and you know your just outside the downtown region. Its fairly tiny but the little area of park in the middle is nicely groomed and upkept. They were in the midst of building a research facility when I was there in September.

LECOM - No campus....big building...big parking lot. Then again your not there for a campus you there for medicine.

AZCOM - a little spread out and the moutains in the distance are absolutely beautiful! There really isn't any grass around but there were a lot of bruses and tumbleweeds! It was 96 degrees in the first week of October and I was wearing a suit! I thought it was pretty cause of the desert and mountains. It was definatly a draw for me.

CCOM - Its a bigger campus and what was nice is it used to be an undergraduate college convered to a medical facility It had more room to be outside and relax....thought when I interviewed in late October..it was cold and windy...not really the best hang outside weather. Having the intramural fields was a nice touch.

NSUCOM - the medical school was located a little apart form the campus but it is a fairly spead out area when looked at all over. I think what sells it is the palm trees and clear skys. They also have some nice spead out grassy areas from the HPS to the main library....and their library is absolutly gorgeous! I t really is nice and people that interviewed there would know cause its part of the tour.

My vote of where I visited for best DO campus would have been NSUCOM.

I haven't had the opportunity to see NYCOM, UNECOM, or OUCOM so I can't speak for them.

I was struck by the area at NYCOM too; it was ugly as hell.

Best campus I've seen is NSUCOM. But the best scenery goes to OUCOM... some of the girls on this campus are out of this world! Space and windex pants everywhere 😉 .

Is there a website with pics of old westbury or the surrounding areas of nsucom?

let me see if I can attach a couple of campus pics for a few days....

(pic removed 6/1/04 due to better pics of campus posted later on)

How far is it from NSU to those beautiful beaches?

hmmm from my new apartment about 22-25 minutes from NSU maybe 20-25 minutes. Thats until your toes are in the sand.

I did a drive last sunday morning and found a parking space right off the bat and it was within 25 minutes form the immediate NSU area until I was playing beach bum....

Definitly UNECOM. It was one of the many resons I chose the school. It's on the water and is gorgeous!

I'm partial to AZCOM, but that's mainly because I like the desert SW region, it's beautiful in it's own way.

I've heard great things about UNECOM, and am sure I'd love it since it's right on the ocean.

We're between the projects & a refinery, not to mention the sandbar that we refer to as the Arkansas river. 😉

I used to work across the street from you at Tulsa Litho... they should move that campus to a more open area of Tulsa. Nothing quite like a river you can smell eh? lol

J~

TCOM should get the award for being in the most cultured area of town. We are across the street from 3 world-class art museums, and down the street from a gorgeous botanical garden.

I've been to NYCOM, I've been to NOVA, and neither can hold a candle to WVSOM.

I think that choosing a medical school based on the campus is kind of asinine... but that's just IMHO.

NSUCOM has a nice campus, and a great location... I lived a two minute walk from campus and it was always nice.

I heard the OUCOM campus is real nice too.

I interviewed at Des Moines, and was not impressed at all by it.

Q, DO

those pictures of wvsom are really nice!

was that a hourse drawn buggy I saw in that pic????

J/K

it looks like it has a nice rural atmosphere.

Those pics made it look a little cold cause all the trees had not leaves on them but it looked nice.

Yeah, I thought about telling that to the doc that said that to me but since he pointed out that it wasn't the best way about picking a school I let it drop. Plus he was cool enough to talk to a premed about his profession.

can you imagine???? its kinda like going to your favorite dirty bar....putting small pictures of the school you have been accepted to on the dartboard...

darts on!!!!

WHOO Hoooo happy valley college of medince! rock on!

AZCOM's campus is really nice. I especially like the on-campus housing.

I forgot ot mention, NSUCOM has two great bars right across the street from Campus. One, Quarterdeck, is sports themed with great drink specials, the other "Ye Olde Falcon Pub" has the world's GREATEST chicken tenders (NO LIE), the best cole slaw, and a bazillion crazy beers on tap. Great place to party after a big test.

(This was why I lived within walking distance from teh school).

Oh come on now Quinn, I don't think the OP was implying that they were choosing a school based on its looks. It's just another way to pass the time on SDN.

i just visited the lecom bradenton campus two days ago and although it's a pile of dirt as far as landscape right now, it may definitely be one of the most attractive. already had palm trees planted! 😀

NYCOM, the campus is ok.... but the girls are hottt!

If you like the mountains, check out Pikeville. (www.pcsom.edu) Nice quiet mountain town. (I hope)

WVSOM hands down has the best campus, even inside the place is teeming with technology. Edward Via has a nice campus too but the whole town it is located in is nice.

NYCOM, the campus is ok.... but the girls are hottt!

That ain't part of the campus 😛 But definately a plus 👍

but most of them are LI girls......

🙄

well I've been to three myself, and I must say that I was really impressed with OUCOM. so my vote goes for them, although I'll be attending Western/COMP this Fall. By the way my vote FOR THE WORST LOOKING CAMPUS HAS TO GO TO TOURO....and I'm sure many of you will agree with me 😉

having looked at all the photos if you scroll down to building shots, general....it gives a nice glimpse of the general campus look.

I may be biased, but I believe CCOM has a gorgeous campus. I guess the "feel" for that school made it seem beautiful which is why I chose it.

Out of the schools I have visited:
1) CCOM
2) UHS-COM (or whatever the new name is 😕 )
3) AZCOM
4) MSUCOM
5) COMP

dude!!! I never knew these existed...cool.

yeah, dont ask me how i got that link... i came across it a long time ago and then tried to find it again for days and days to post in this forum.

took me forever.

OUCOM has very nice architecture (sp?). If you stay on campus you find it to be quite attractive, but I wish I could say the same about the surrounding area. Athens is a bit run down as a city, but from the three that I visited (OUCOM, WVSOM, and LECOM) I would say that the nicest campus goes to OUCOM (probably due to it being affiliated with a major state university), but the most beautiful area goes to WVSOM. I really think the town sitting in the midst of the mountains is great.

Here are my votes for the WORST campuses:

Tuoro University - Its an old WWII Navy base.....it's run down....the water near it is dirty... and it's in ghetto Vallejo.......Ugh!

Western University - This place looks like a strip mall...this is because it once was a strip mall. I heard that the University bought a couple blocks of downtown and converted them to class rooms..except for the one guy who owns the bar in the middle of campus that refuses to sell....hey does anyone else think that the bookstore looks like an old bank?

UMDNJ-SOM - I love the school (I'm attending in the fall), but the minute you step off campus itz duck-and-cover time. I guess that being californian I have different standards for the amount of cigarrette butts and plastic bags and beer cans on the streets....but the school is awesome....(nice facilities, teaching hospital on campus, GREAT people, reasonable tuition)

I do really like AZCOM and WVSOM though! Quite nice but oh-so-expensive and no teaching hospitals

Believe it or not, palm trees are very expensive. Even in Florida.

Yeah my grandparents just sold one that was in their front yard for a few grand.

msucom has the best campus hands down... being a part of a big 10 university... it has all the anemities of a large metropolis with a small town feel... lots of variety in resturants, bars, clubs, coffee shops, shopping malls, theatres, museums.. and oh yea... hospitals... not to mention you get to tailgate at football games 🙂

You just can't beat UNE* and if you haven't taken a tour of the campus then you can consider it one Maine's secret treasures.... 🙂

Though Quinn is right, I still believe that aesthetics are more important for some than others... and for a variety of reasons.

Lucky for us, the beauty of UNE is just one of its best features.

*no bias here! 😉
