Most "Canadian Friendly" US pharmacy schools!

Hello,

I've been doing some research on this. I just want to know what are the most common pharmacy schools in the US that Canadians apply to each year? I'm mainly looking towards schools that would have the same prerequisites as Canadian schools (i.e. gen and orgo chem, phys chem, gen bio, calc, biochem, stats...) I would be doing my second year of undergrad next year, and I will be taking the courses that I've listed and I have room for only 1.5 more credits (i.e. 3 "half courses"). Preferably, I would like to skip taking English, so do ALL pharmacy schools in the US have this prerequisite?

SUNY at Buffalo is very close to Canada.. I don't know how many Canadians actually go there though.

thanks for the input! all these schools still require english 🙁 I guess there is no way to go around this. Does anyone know whether anyone of these schools (or any other ones) would still consider you without the english course, and let you complete the course in the summer ?

I'm a Canadian that plans on applying to some US schools as well. As far as I've seen, you will definitely need to take a full English credit. What's your reason for not wanting to take it, intro English shouldn't be too bad. Also, you'll most likely have to take a communications course as well as was mentioned earlier. I took a few communications courses through my Business degree so I have that covered.

Well the main reason is that my second year calender is almost full. The other reason is that at my school, it's VERY hard to do well on English courses and they take a LOT of time and effort... I have a lot on my plate already for second year (whole bunch of core science courses) so I don't wanna add English on top of that if i could.

I can't speak for all schools but all of the ones I looked at require english and other non-science courses. For some schools, some humanities may be waived if you have a degree. Some schools require english (I actually think most do), economics, public speaking (or communications), psychology, or humanities. It really depends on the school.

Some schools allow you to take them during the summer but some do not. I know that Buffalo does not - you must have all pre-reqs done by the end of the spring semester.

do you know if Wayne State let you take some of the prerequisites (like the english, the american politic course, speech etc) during the summer (ie. you get accepted, then do those courses in the summer before you enter pharmacy?)

Also, where did you get the speech course? I know my uni doesn't offer one 👎

I know several Canadians who are enrolled at Ferris State University.

But, they also require 2 semesters of English and a public speaking or a interpersonal communications course.

Also, if i have to take physiology next year, I would only have room for .5 a course... so any schools that only require one semester of english instead of full year????

If you are entering with a BA or BS degree, then you don't need English to be considered at UB. If you are a native English speaker from Canada (except Quebec), you also don't need the TOEFL.

As a Canadian, you don't have to send a foreign transcript evaluation report to PharmCAS if your transcript is indicated as a Foreign Institution on your PharmCAS application (unless you're applying to other schools). All official transcripts must be submitted directly to UB SoPPS and not PharmCAS.

Yes you can take these during the summer after you are accepted. I have been accepted to Wayne State from Windsor and I'm taking both the speech and the american politics course this summer. Wayne State offers courseware for the speech course, but you are also allowed to take it at your local community college (which is what I'm doing, its cheaper). The english course (compositions) is not hard, it is an english course for non-English majors. I actually enjoyed it alot (although if you hate writing, this may be a different story). Also, about 20% of the PharmD class at Wayne State is Canadian, although I would assume the overwhelming majority is from the Windsor area.

Also, I'm pretty sure Wayne offers some of these pre-requisites during the summer; so you could consider taking them there as well if you are serious about going there. The price for these courses would be the same as if you were an in-state student (Wayne State has a friendly neighbour policy with Ontario for undergraduate courses).
