What's the most common cause of 1st trimester abortions?

Trisomy 16 or Turners syndrome?

On that note, does anyone know what the most common cause of 2nd (downs?) and 3rd trimester abortions are?

Trisomy 16 is incompatible with life, whereas Turner's has a ~1% chance of being viable.

You could have idiopathic imprinting of entire third copy of chromosome 16 in which case it could be viable and worthy of a case report.

yep , trisomies and high dose teratogens can cause 1st trimester abortion

I think X-linked monosomy is the most common chromosomal cause followed by trisomy 16(which is the most common trisomy cause)

I honestly didn't know we had to know stuff like this and we weren't taught it lol

The most common cause of 2nd trimester SAB are maternal factors (e.g. Uterine anomalies, cervical insufficiency, etc). Chromosomal abnormalities only account for roughly a quarter of 2nd trimester SABs with trisomy 13, 18, and 21, monosomy X, and the sex chromosome polysomies being most common.
