Just thought it would be interesting to see what everyones input is on the most "ghetto" dental schools out there. I read a post about a shooting in front of a dental school, so it just got me wondering.

That was in one of the sketch neighborhoods that are near the school. Nobody has been shot at or in front of the school. I feel safe there and we have a ton of security guards who keep an eye out for shady locals.

Temple, hands down. Apparently, absolutely no one lives within walking distance to school. I know of no other school with that same predicament.

I'm pretty sure no school, not even Temple, has patients lining up outside the door. When I visited Temple, the waiting area was pretty empty to tell you the truth. Again, I am not bashing Temple, I am just voicing my opinion. I am not living in some delusional world and if there is something that I mentioned that you don't agree with, I would appreciate it if you specifically noted what I stated that was incorrect.

But its for.... EXTRACTIONS!!!! You can train any sh#thead to extract a tooth. Once you've extracted 20 teeth you've extracted a million.

Show me a school that has people lining up to get root canals and crowns; that's where to go.

Once you start dental school you'll understand that there is a lot more to be afraid of inside your school than outside.

I worked at Louisville medical center for 8 years and ULSD is just cross the street. It is a safe area as far as I know.

Walking distance, by definition, is a distance between two points that is close enough for you to walk frequently, not something you have simply done a few times. For instance, I have walked from the financial district in NYC to central park (approximately six mile apart) more than 20 times, but no one who is familiar with that distance will consider those locations to be within walking distance of each other. . . smartass.

That was my impression precisely. In fact, I was quite intimidated by the unruly public school students on the train as I was returning to 30th Street station to head home.

Instead of telling us how insulted you are or your opinion of someone that posts something you disagree with, why not tell us WHY Howard isn't a dangerous school environment? Don't you think that would be time better spent? (not to mention it would actually add value to the thread...)

The neighborhood where Howard is located (Shaw in DC) isn't terrible but its not Beverly Hills, either. There is a decent amount of crime in the area, that's for sure. The majority of DC (NE, some parts of NW, SE, SW) are all pretty much riddled with crime, the only exception really being upper NW, which includes Georgetown, American University Park, etc.

Haha, my point was that if they don't get there in the morning before everyone else they will never get in or be seen because there's such a demand! I wasn't saying they are lining up for the doors to open...I was just stating how early you have to be there to even think you'll have the chance of being seen.

Someone asked why so many dental schools are in crappy areas. It doesn't have much to do with the cost of land there so much as the age of the school. When the schools went up they were in nice areas but as the cities grew around them the areas started to decline. In a lot of cases the older the school, the more ghetto the environment. This seems to be a trend with medical schools, chiropractic schools, etc... Palmer Chiropractic in Davenport IA purchases any properties that come available around the school and have, in essence, created a buffer zone between the worst areas and their school.
