What are the most important classes you take throughout pharmacy school?
Which ones are you most likely to use day-to-day while working and most importantly, which classes are most important for the NAPLEX?

While in my undergrad I always knew that Biology, chemistry, Algebra, calculus etc were the most important for getting into pharmacy school. Which courses are most important for passing NAPLEX?

One sequence of classes about sums up this... Pharmacotherapeutics with Pharmacology/Medicinal Chemistry coming in close. These are the core sequence of classes which define us and will be on the NAPLEX. Congratz on the acceptance.

I wouldn't leave pharmacokenetics off that list. Really anything with pharmco in front of it is gonna be important.

even pharmacognosy is important?

Something your future boss will appreciate:

Common Sense 101.

and it's follow up:

Tact 102.

Trust me.

Kinetics by a long shot is the single most important topic. It is the one thing that physicians don't get nor care to get.

Just worry about being a good pharmacist, you will see NAPLEX is a piece of cake unless they change it.
Pharm Calc and all the therapeutics are really important. Kinetics will be important if you end up in hospital. I loved pharmacology and med chem. I vaguely remember that my NAPLEX had around 20 calculations questions, around 40 pharmacology/moa/side effects, a lot of therapeutics and 1-2 questions from fluff stuff like biostat, etc

its calculations class

you have to know how to do ratios and proportions on those problems

that stuff is GIMME points on the naplex, every 3-4 question on my test was a math question, i was laughing my way to the bank collecting those points

Most likely to use day-to-day? Top 200 by far. I've done brand/generic and very basic MOA every single day that I've been in a pharmacy. Kinetics questions certainly don't come up every day in retail. Communication is important, but I honestly find it hard to learn those kind of skills in a classroom, even with people roleplaying patients, that's something you need to actually learn firsthand.

Today I played an 82 year old woman with arthritis, hypertension and DMII. I was a difficult patient 🙂 I got upset and was hard of hearing at the same time and kept asking the "pharmacist" to repeat stuff as she was taking my medication history.

I love having to do "reflecting responses" and talking about symptoms. My classmates get really into the acting and we sometimes yell or cry hehe.

I've worked in retail before and some of the stuff really happens so I think it can be pretty "real world" depending on who is in your group. I know I have learned a lot.

I second this sentiment! Therapeutics and Kinetics FTW!

Yea, like many have said: Therapeutics, Kinetics, Calculations and Dynamics.

We still call them rotations at my school. Don't really separate between intro, intermediate, or APPE.

You don't differentiate much between IPPE's and APPE's? I find that hard to believe. At my school IPPE's are basically useless. Please do not tell the Director of Experiential Program I told you this. 😉 I hope that is not true of APPE's!

We also still say rotations for APPE's, but not for IPPE's!

lol we did this same activity last year. We (the patients) were all given ear plugs (to imitate hearing loss), safety glasses coated in vaseline (to imitate poor eye sight), and wore leather gloves (to imitate . . . you get the idea). Probably one of the funnest times during that class.

Well our IPPE (as in intro) last year was definitely pretty useless haha. Next year I'm not actually sure how those work or are set up, to be quite honest. Definitely excited for my APPE's though! I meant we don't differentiate as in we just call them all rotations, but on paper they are separated IPPE/APPE.

When the hell did they stop calling them rotations?

I feel old.
Ha! Me too........... I am so lost with all the new lingo. Graduated in '87 and rotations & externships were our terms. Glad someone else is in the same boat.
