back when I was interviewing (seems so long ago now)...I really liked Creighton. Maybe it was the facilities..maybe it was b/c I have a good friend there...or maybe b/c it was my very first interview.

I was impressed by all 4 of the dental schools that I interviewed at for very different reasons. Either I am just a cup half full kind of person or I am easily impressed (or both), but I really didn’t see a whole lot that didn’t impress me. This is what impressed me with about the schools that I interviewed at:

UF: I really liked the organization of the whole interview day and the way that they presented their school. I was also impressed by the summer research program that is available the summer before dental school starts. The guy that gave the tour was very funny and laid back and seemed to genuinely enjoy attending dental school at UF.

Nova: All of the faculty and students I have ever met from Nova have been incredibly nice, and the interview day was no exception. I was very impressed with Dr. Lipman. I had met him once a few years before my interview and he struck me as a very sincere person both times. I also liked that 4th year dental students could go to a north Miami clinic, good experience for them and freeing up chairs in the main clinic.

Temple: All of the students that I talked to during the interview day seemed to be really happy about going to Temple. I was impressed with the volume of patients seen by the students and the amount of clinical experience that the students get. I also appreciated the enthusiasm and honesty of Brian.

Harvard: What most impressed me with Harvard are the questions they asked me during my 2 interviews. I think you can tell a lot about a school and what qualities they think are important in their students based on what type of questions they ask during the interview. I also liked the honesty of the students I met that answered my questions about the pros and cons of the school.

😀

I like how the "Why" portion of the question has gone completely ignored.

I totally didn't see the why part. 😀

Well, UB because of the cheap tuition and the fact that you get your own chair. Faculty is nice and the students seem to like it there a lot.

Louisville because my gut tells me so (Not a good answer I know, but it's the truth).

the own chair thing really impressed me at UB, ive heard some horror stories at other schools about people waking up at 4 am to go sign up for a chair, having your own is like having your own little office which is pretty cool

Louisville because they had the most friendly attitude among all the schools where I interviewed and it just felt right to go there. Also because of their patient pool. They see over 100,000 patients a year. Besides getting your required procedures done, you will be exposed to alot more. That was very important to me. I have been told by quite a few practicing dentists that Louisville grads are more confident with clinical procedures after they have finished at Louisville. Once again the students and faculty seemed like one big family.

I liked Kentucky because they had a very small class size and they had only 2 people not graduate in the last 3 years. That was what I was told. The students there really seemed to like it but at times they did seem a litte arrogant.

Overall I was impressed with both schools.

UCLA, with UoP a virtual tie.

UNLV - For a new school, they really had their ducks in a row. Facilities possibly the best in the country, great curriculum, relatively inexspensive compared to the private sector, interview was great, student body was nice. Emphasis on vertical integration.
Disadvantages - Commuter campus in crappy neighborhood (they should move it to strip and put slot machines in the operatories), UoP stole all of their good faculty 😛

UoP - You all knew this was coming. Interview was great, school presented themselves as having their stuff really in order, which they do with a few minor exceptions. Faculty were readily willing to question themselves and were completely honest about any and all faults. They also encouraged open discussion without fear of reprisal. Any and all students I encountered were great. Facilities are nice, though not current state of the art. No specialties on campus woowoo. Fantastic area for a dental school*. Seriously underrated didactics (As people like to point out so often, faculty don't come here primarily for research, they come here to teach.
Disadvantages - Price tag, *didn't like the fact that it was an isolated building hours away from the main campus, some vertical integration but it seemed like an afterthought. (Still does)

UoP - Cause armorshell  goes there. You all knew this was coming.

Same reasons as armorshell except without the disadvantages. Price tag didn't faze me and still doesn't and I don't mind that the the dental building isn't by the main campus.

I love the dress code. It was super impressive interviewing there because everyone looked so nice.

Stony Brook had nice facilities and get you seeing patients by thanksgiving your second year. The faculty were fun and my interviewer had such a great sense of humor.

UNC was beautiful. All the D students on interview day had nothing but good things to say. They also gave the best tour out of any other D school. All three of my interviewers were so nice and the area surrounding UNC is great. Pretty cheap cost of living too. The one thing I disliked was the "We're a top 5 school," kept coming up and I still don't understand how they can keep saying that.

I shadowed a dentist who is a UNC graduate and also an adjunct professor there. He was good! He has clinics in USA, UAE and Pakistan (making oodles of cash).I could see that UNC produces quality dentists.👍 Now I wish I had applied there. 😛

UCSF! hands down, at least for me!

Pitt... everyone seemed so happy. It was a very inviting atmosphere. 🙂

I'm surprised no one has mentioned anything about Maryland yet but that is definitely the school that impressed me. State of the art technology, amazing building and the people were extremely friendly. The two students who led the tours were very honest and friendly and answered questions openly. Basically, everything about the school was impressive!

I was very impressed by MCG because of their small class size and affordability. Also, the faculty and current students were extremely welcoming and it's just like a big family there. I was also very impressed by the amount of clinical experience we will get there.

Baylor and San Antonio.

San Antonio:
The individual operatories are a big plus. Lots of opportunities for community and mission work. It was nice to see that upgrade in the pre-clinical labs to simulation labs.

Baylor:
All the students seemed happy. Although you can't always tell if they are just putting on a smile for the interviewees. In general they seemed genuinely happy and enjoy being at Baylor. The thing that caught my attention the most was their dedication to incorporating new technology into the clinical portion. It was nice to see their recognition of the ever changing dental field.

Maryland: very organized, had really impressive facilities and sold the school really well.

Case: faculty has been super nice and extremely helpful with me, they have answered all my questions in a really timely manner and are really easy for me to contact which is nice. I also liked their facilities and the fact that the class size is smaller then some of the other programs I've seen. I also liked that the school is next to the undergrad and the area around the school is nice. Students that had lunch with us were helpful and seemed really happy about going there and had a lot of good things to say.

I was very impressed with Tuft's facilities.

I have to agree with Armorshell, I was really impressed with UNLV. They have tremendous facilities and a well developed curriculum.

I'm going to be attending UCLA next year, but I have to say that I was incredibly impressed by UPenn. I think that they did a great job of keeping me up to date with letters and brochures from their school. I also think that they provided the best interview day (great food, great tour, and best presentation). I decided on UCLA, which is an equally great school, but there were a couple of things that I didn't really like that much about the interview day - namely that they didn't provide lunch, and the tour was given by the secretary at the admissions office. They had a one hour Q/A with students - I would have rather they had the students give the tour and we ask them questions while we are getting the tour. But whatever, its not the interview day that really matters - I'm sure that I'm going to love the school.

UNLV then Marquette. I interviewed at a lot of schools, I wasn't expecting much out of UNLV, I was happily suprised. The Clinic was packed with patients (suprised me for how new the school was) the facilities were immaculate. It is in a kinda crappy neighborhood. Marquette was brand new, and looked really good too.

I was actually impressed with VCU, because of the nice (and getting nicer) facilities.... and the people seemed genuinely nice.... almost like a family atmosphere.

I have to agree.... I really liked VCU. All of the students seemed like they loved going to school there. Nobody I talked to had anything bad to say about the school. I like the new additions they have made and are currently making. I think the program is headed in a good direction. Out of the 8 schools I visited, VCU was my favorite.

UNLV was also very impressive. I liked their curriculum, the nice facilities, and the fact that you will learn Spanish while in school.

CU had an intense charm to it. The school is all paperless, there is a small entering class of 50, and they have X-box in their student lounge. I feel like I've been proposed to by someone offering a huge diamond, but only know their first name. The nerve!!! ... or, maybe diamonds are a girl's best friend in this case.

UB was also very alluring. Friendly student body, the offer of a chair to each 3rd and 4th year student, the relaxed interview. Just no diamond ring in this case. Only the promise that I will be able to buy my own in the future.

Does anyone else view dental school acceptances as marriage proposals?😉

You are funny. I'd kinda like my marriage to last more than 4 years...lol

UOP was impressive. Pretty amazing interview process. A downside? Students there asked so many questions during lunch that I couldn't finish eating. Despite the fact it was a long day, it went pretty quickly as well.
