I'm trying to pick medical schools to apply to, and though this isn't the most important factor it's something I'm considering.

Most medical schools seem to be in very urban locations, some nicer than others. However, I really like more scenic locations in a natural setting. There are a lot of beautiful undergrad campuses which fit this description, however I was curious to know if any medical schools, especially middle tier schools had locations like this as well.

The University of Vermont is a good example of what I'm describing.

What in your opinions are some of the most scenic medical schools? Even if the schools are urban, do any have campuses similar to the picture in the link?

I'm pretty sure there was a similar thread that died. Anyways, I don't have much of a basis for comparison, but Vanderbilt's medical complex and Light Hall were adjacent to their absolutely gorgeous undergrad campus.

Also, Scaiffe Hall (Pitt) is is on the older side and kind of foreboding but I'm always going to be partial to the Oakland area.

UVM is very scenic, like you posted. Not sure if the medical school is on main campus but if so.. Burlington is a ton of fun if you're an active person (ie: school on top of "mountain".. fun on bottom of "mountain" AKA great glute workout). Lake Champlain offers a good weekend day trip and you should consider talking to the trees at some point... there's many to choose from.
^^from an outsiders prospective

My favorites: Temple, Cincinnati, Northwestern.

University of Central Florida has a pretty campus. http://med.ucf.edu/news/ucf-college-of-medicine-media/

Also, BU's med students don't really have classes in the building UpQuark posted. The building that the med students take most of their classes in is a 14-story tower that is pretty boring looking. The school of public health has a lot of classes in that other building though.

UCI, hands down.

The actual med campus itself is not that impressive relative to the core campus (which is only a brief walk away). For argument purposes, I am counting the core undergrad campus as part of the entire scenic package that accompanies coming to UCI for graduate or a professional degree. The park located within the center of our educational buildings is absolutely gorgeous and very picnic-esque.

These pictures won't do it as much justice as actually being there in person on a sunny day (most days in california) and kickin' back, passing the time with an engaging novel. I will be very sad to be moving away from Southern California, but excited to have the opportunity to explore a bit of what the Northeast has to offer!

Drew University was considered the most scenic college campus the year I went there. It doesn't hurt that they have a pretty large forest preserve on campus either that they protect and no one, including the college, can develop on. They've filmed movies (the family stone), tv shows (sopranos), and music videos (some alicia keys thing) on campus. The fly over they did for the incredible hulk was also Drew. Doesn't have a med school though.

Temple's building is nice but it is in a pretty run down area.

NYMC was pretty nice and I only saw it in the fall after the leaves fell.

I had no idea New York Medical College was so pretty. Even more reason to apply there now. 😀

Scaife is automatically eliminated, because it's on a massive hill that is impossible to climb. (Says this unfit couch potato.)

The new Hopkins medical education building is quite beautiful; perhaps the most attractive medical school facility I've seen.

I really like the park area at UCI. There's a mix of very nice looking buildings and very ugly looking buildings on campus

nymc was the best looking campus i've been to so far.

and holy jesus uci is amazing

I found Vanderbilt and OHSU aesthetically pleasing.

Of the urban campuses, Baylor was one my favorites. The TMC was somewhat reminiscent of the Vegas strip; crazy cool.

Haven't been to Wake, but from what I've heard, it's really nice as well.

+1 for NYMC as well. Gorgeous campus!!

Believe me, you get used to it quickly. I lived farther up the hill than the med school for a year and it was fine! Plus, once you get to know the hospitals below it, you cut through using elevators and you never have to use the hill. No elimination of Scaife! 👍

Duluth, MN is a gorgeous place-- very underrated. The school is on a hill overlooking Lake Superior, and the view is spectacular.

OHSU. Doesn't get any more scenic than taking a gondola to class.

UCSD is so pretty 😍

I would also like to visit Portland.

+1 🙂
Although, they are moving the medical school down to the waterfront in coming years... Which is great, because it'll be a brand new facility! And hey, you can still take the tram between them because the hospital is obviously staying on the hill.

OHSU's campus is confusing beyond belief, but the view is indeed brilliant.

Kinda off-topic, but of all college campuses, my favorite (from a purely aesthetic standpoint) is Boston College (I know, it has no medical school, but one can dream).

Emory SOM... The entire campus is made out of marble, for cryin' out loud...

The downtown Atlanta skyline is a nice touch, as well.

Agreed. Of the 20 programs I visited this season, OHSU impressed me the most in terms of scenery. Looking at a foggy city from top of the hill in the morning is quite magnificent.
The tram too was cool. I took it several times inbetween my interviews.

In terms of architecture, I'd say Cincinnati and Mount Sinai have the most impressive buildings.
In terms of interior design, I would give props to CCF. Well, it just screamed, "I'm prettier than Narita Airport"

You should consider looking at UMDNJ NJMS (Newark) and possibly the New School that opened in Camden! Those have beautiful campuses.

I hear Camden is just beautiful this time of year.

lol I remember that during my tour at UVM, the tour guide told us that many visitors comment on Fletcher Allen's (The main hospital) design as very airport-esque, especially the foyer/lobby area. The reason behind this was quite astounding. Burlington Airport and the hospital were designed by the same architect!

Think Caribbean, buddy 😛

haha no way! thats pretty sick. UVM was def. the best campus i have seen so far..green mountains..lake champlain...burlington..COMET system..VIC. But coming from california i feel i might not be ready for the cold/--looks like i will be indoors anyway most of the time.

You guys should be showing pictures of the inside of the libraries and wards. That's where you will be spending 60-80 hours of your weeks for the next 4 years. Who cares if the outside of a building looks nice. It not like you spend time out there.

Show me a ward where there is ample space on the nursing station desk for you to spread out and write your SOAP notes and id call that good scenery for med school.

Dartmouth undergrad was beautiful and Hanover seemed very nice, although tiny and isolated. The inside of the medical school, however, was like a dungeon. It was depressing. The DHMC is a very nice hospital though, not to mention that they have single on-call rooms with a nice computer in each one. That was impressive.

I agree with Temple and Cincinnati for best looking medical school buildings. Extremely modern and shiny!

+1 on Cinci, the MSB was really impressive, as was Children's.

You are, by and far, the biggest debbie-downer on this board. You must be just a delight in real life.

Thanks for the buzz kill, Doc.

No love for Stanford? Unbelievably gorgeous campus coupled with the best weather in the country. Yes please.

I thought this was weird too. Dartmouth has one of the nicest undergrad campuses in the country, but a med school that's hardly been renovated since the 70's.
