Most soluble in water?
Started by Mstoothlady2012
Which of the following compound is most soluble in water?
a) CH3CH2OCH2CH3
b) N (CH2CH3)3
c) C6H5OH
d) CH3(CH2)15CO2Na
e) CH3CH2CHOHCH2CH3
What do you guys think? Thanks!
I go for "c"
yes that's the answer but the first thing I started looking for his hydrogen bonding and polar molecules. How do you know you have to pick salt which has such a huge hydrophobic chain compared to something small with -OH group?isnt D a salt??? making it very soluble in water...

yea this is a tricky problem, i learned the hard way juuust like u did...i ran across a question like this while going through a test a also picked the one with hydrogen bonding, buuuut learned that the more soluble molecule will be the salt.
uh this sucks!! I hope all these tiny specific details don't show up on the real thing. I already hate chem conceptual questions. Thanks though! Yea I got this from kaplan practice test #2, it wasn't as bad as # 3 though...I hated # 3yea this is a tricky problem, i learned the hard way juuust like u did...i ran across a question like this while going through a test a also picked the one with hydrogen bonding, buuuut learned that the more soluble molecule will be the salt.
I did bad in bio for this test, made really silly mistakesyea i thought #2 was pretty good, what did you end up getting on #2 practice test for sciences???
bio - 18
gchm - 20
ochem - 19
how did you do?

wow your scores are pretty good! Hey I took this test after destroyer lol and I still did this bad.
yea you know what test #2 made me realize...take it slow and be concious of other answer choices cuz i made ALOT of stupid mistakes where the answer was easy but i just didnt pay attention to the other choices...

A negative charge will always dissolve best.
Bio- 24
GC- 21
OC- 19 (this sucks i went over destroyer after i took this...bad idea) 🙁
are those for achiever 2? thats pretty solid i thought the second one was the hardest.
nah we are talking about kaplan full length practice test # 2are those for achiever 2? thats pretty solid i thought the second one was the hardest.
yea you are right!! I love your bio score....you must have rocked # 3 bio then. How did you do in # 3?yea you know what test #2 made me realize...take it slow and be concious of other answer choices cuz i made ALOT of stupid mistakes where the answer was easy but i just didnt pay attention to the other choices...
Mstooth and OsimsDSS are you guys talking about the Kaplan Midterm and Final? Or is this the Kaplan online stuff?

#3 was also a 24 for bio, but i had like 17's for both gchem and ochem, test #3 was annoying for gchem waaaay too many useless calculations...
yea me too I got 17s on both gchem and ochem and 22 on bio.#3 was also a 24 for bio, but i had like 17's for both gchem and ochem, test #3 was annoying for gchem waaaay too many useless calculations...

nice thats a solid score, i think achiever gchem and ochem are easier then kaplan...it seems to me like kaplan cant get their stuff down, its either waaaay too hard or waay too easy...
achiever # 1 gchem & ochem were easier but # 2 gchem & ochem were tricky! Yea kaplan is either way too easy or way too hard. You can't really depend on these scores to predict how you will do on the real thing. Are you doing topscore as well? My scores were most comparable to topscore last year, so I want to buy it but only have 4 days left and still have a lot to do.nice thats a solid score, i think achiever gchem and ochem are easier then kaplan...it seems to me like kaplan cant get their stuff down, its either waaaay too hard or waay too easy...
