Hi,
heres the breakdown of my grades
calc I, II -- A, B
bio 1, II -- B-, A-
chem I, II -- B, B+
orgo I -- w, B
orgo II -- B-
orgo lab I, II - A, A-
stats - A
physics -- probably b's

cGPA - 3.5

what do you think my chances are? My science GPA is pretty low...what a string of B's. trying to bring it up with higher level courses....
Would a 28 on MCAT get me in anywhere?
i dont think it matters that much, but i go to a top 20 school. I have about 1 year's worth of research experience.. lots of volunteer work...

Thanks!! any advice would be great

28 with those B's won't give you much love from MD. For DO you'll be 'alright'. I recommend taking a few classes to bump up your science gpa, like astonomy, microbiology and other upper level classes ( in which you'll need to put in extra effort to get a A in). It can be a pain sometimes but you can do it.

Most pre-meds from top 20 schools, with a 3.5+ overall gpa, a 3.5+ science gpa, and a 30+ MCAT stand an 80-90 percent chance at medical schools.

haha Most pre-meds period, Not just top 20 schools, with 3.5+ cGPA and 3.5+ sGPA and 30+ MCAT stand a FAIRLY good chance at an acceptance (may be 50-60%)...80-90 percent might be pushing it, there is more to it than that. Plus there are plenty of good state schools that might not be top 20 but have some of the best students also like UVA, UMichigan, UNC, GaTech, UWisconsin, UMaryland, list goes on.....

Realistically average stats like those can be supplemented with smart EC's and applying. If you do it all smartly you'll get into medical school without a problem.

I'm in a very similar situation. I'm 2/3 of the way through my pre-req's a top 25 school. Realisitically, our competition is fierce. We all know going into the class that 10% of us are getting A's and we kill each other to get one of them.

Right now I have about a 3.2 science with my pre-req's. A couple C"s (bad quarter/adjustment issues), a couple A's, mostly B's. Our school's policy is no class retakes for anything above a C-. So 1) The couple classes I got C's --> should I retake the equivalents at a community college. 2) Our school uses the pre-req's to weed people out of the major like crazy. Known fact. Most people score higher in upper divs. That being said, will a good positive trend for my remaining two years in sciences be enough? Say it comes to a 3.5-3.6 science with upper div's. Is a decent science gpa a decent science gpa or are pre-req's weighed more heavily?

I would highly appreciate help on this one :)

So the question is... I know from the AMCAS guide that microbiology and astronomy courses are included in the BCPM GPA but is that a little dubious if you were to take a lower level micro or astronomy course right before you submit your transcript?
