I was wondering if anyone has any input on the program, if the residents are happy, do they learn, etc. Please let me know

thanks

Hi,

This is a short version because my computer crashed when I was almost done with the original!

In short, I am a PGY-4 in this program and find it well-balanced. I think Mount Sinai is the only program with both model system status in TBI and SCI in the tristate area now (I heard Kessler lost the TBI model system status last year). So those are definitely strong areas in the program. You work hard during the inpatient months but it is nothing not managable. Plus the nurses at Sinai are pretty good that they can actually guide you until you know what you are doing. Teaching during those months are good most of the time.

For those not looking forward to doing inpatient, the good news is that you only do 12 months of it. Other 24 months are divided into consults, EMG's (full six months + > 200 cases for sure for those who want to be board certificated in EMG's), outpatient, peds, and four months of electives! Whatever you think you are not getting enough you can definitely get in those four months.

Traditionally people complaint that there are not enough interventional procedures. They just hired a specialist who is to start later this year. I don't know how that will affect the residency yet but I expect it to be a good one.

But the most important thing really is how great the people are. My class all get along and are willing to help each other. So it is an excellent envirnment to learn.

Hope it helps.
