I wanted to ask this here because I think I will get a little more well rounded response from actual medical students. I am deciding between two offers of acceptance. One is a top tier that is 4 hours north in a large city. The other is at a middle tier in my current large city school. I have a family (husband and son) and moving would require my husband to transfer his work, which may be possible but could take a until next December. We are not entirely sure yet but trying to find out before I have to make a decision. We will have been living in our current city for 3 years this coming June. We are settled here and like the city however I am going for a competitive field (Derm) and the school 4 hours north has a top rated Derm residency. I'm weighing whether I should just move now and try my hardest to stay in that school for Derm (they favor their students and give 2 of 6 slots to their own) or stay put and have an uphill battle trying to get to that top residency after finishing out here. My son is currently 7 and will be 11 when I finish med school. He does have special needs but both cities have great resources for him. If my husband's work can transfer him, is this worth the inconvenience of moving now? Have any of you moved with your family for medical school? Any advice or suggestions?
