So I went to see "Atonement" since it won best picture at the Golden Globes and figured it would be good. It was ok...I didn't love it though. And I realized it's been a while since I saw a movie that I loved. What are your faves of all time? Have you seen any good ones lately?

WVU, I think I remember you mentioning No Country for Old Men...haven't seen it yet though.

I don't really see a lot of movies, but some of my favorite movies include:
The Witches(1990)
Splash(1984)
Practical Magic(1998)

Foreign films:
Blaue Engel, Der(1930)
Die Ehe der Maria Braun(1979)
Good Bye Lenin!(2003)

I like funny YouTube videos. I was just watching some that I love!
Waterbed Practical Joke
McDonald's Big Mac drive thru Rap
Zuiikin English 1 (They have other videos too; they're so funny!)

Transformers!!

Best comedy I've seen in a while... Knocked up! Just thinking about that movie makes me laugh.😀

Transformers!!
Did you really like this? I was looking forward to it but was super disappointed. It was just so cheesy! Yes, I know, it's based off of a cartoon so what did I expect. :meanie:
Heard this one was great!

From the top of my head, my top three:

Barry Lyndon
My favorite movie so far. It's my type of comedy....ever so subtle dry wit. Coupled with a sort of existentialist story that matches my own world view about the futility of living. The final title care, "In the End, They Were All Equal" is perfect as perfect gets.....and confirmed I was catching what Kubrick was throwing....

The Thin Red Line
I'm still pissed that people are crazy enough to think Saving Private Ryan is better. This **** was on another level.

Eyes Wide Shut
Best film of the 90s. Most people have this idiotic notion that the movie is about "fidelity" and "living in marriage." Um...no. It's about power. Pure and simple. I love how Kubrick used a sort of story that involved a walk through a dream world for the first half...every woman wanted him....everyone loved him. Then the huge "event" in the middle. Then the opposite of the first half of the story is told as the complete opposite...almost a nightmare, I suppose. All women weren't into him...he wasn't given any special privlidges for walking around claiming he was a doctor. There is just so much there....and so much to think about. I've probably seen it over 100 times....and each time I swear I see something new....or understand an undertone differently. I miss Kubrick so much.....why the hell did he have to die? Why couldn't somebody useless like Spielberg have died or something...

And others....I dunno:

Full Metal Jacket
The Shining
A Clockwork Orange
2001
Dr. Strangelove (one of the funniest things I've ever seen.)
Badlands
Three Colours Trilogy (Blue, White, Red)
Pi
Requiem for a Dream
Punch-Drunk Love
Moulin Rouge
Kill Bill
Jackie Brown (Tarantino's best movie)
The Royal Tenenbaums (the last time Wes Anderson was worth a damn, ever.)
Bottle Rocket (The first time Wes Anderson was worth a damn.)
Mulholland Drive (The creepy cowboy with no eyebrow haunts my dreams)
Blue Velvet
Sin City
The Departed
No Country For Old Men (Best movie of 2007. Coen Bros. stepped right.)
O' Brother Where Art Thou (so damn underrated, it isn't funny.)
The Big Lebowski
Raising Arizona
There Will Be Blood (Another good movie from this year...unbelievable acting)

Guilty Pleasures:

Ravenous, Rounders, The Beach, Harold and Kumar

That would be third..... but not by a statistically significant amount.

Godfather II was much better than I and III... And you can't argue about that..

garden state

...also, is anyone else infatuated with movies with themes of dystopia (like V for vendetta or fight club), or drug related (requiem for a dream, trainspotting)?
they are SO much more interesting

I was surprised at how much I like Stardust. Robert Deniro was hilarious and the story was so adorable without being too cheesy. I actually just watched Eastern Promises tonight and I really liked it. Viggo Mortenson did a very good job (he's also really hot, which helps 😛).

One of the movies I really liked from a few years ago (that didn't seem to get a lot of fanfare) was Stranger Than Fiction. It was very sweet and surreal. I can watch Moulin Rouge and O Brother Where Art Thou over and over and not get tired of them. I keep hearing good things about Juno but I haven't had a chance to see it. We wanted to catch Cloverfield this weekend but it had already left the only first-run movie theater in town. 👎

Shawshank Redemption

First movie I saw after reading the book first and wasn't disappointed.

Hero (Jet Li)
Kill Bill 1 & 2
House of Flying Daggers
The Last Samurai
Curse of the Golden Flower
(sorry, love these type of movies)

Tombstone
Gladiator
No Country for Old Men
There Will be Blood
Life is Beautiful (have to admit I shed a tear at the end 🙁 )
Apocaypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
American History X
Pan's Labyrinth
The Prestige
Donnie Darko
Big Lebowski
3:10 to Yuma
Mystic River
The Departed
Almost Famous.

Not trying to derail thread - but has anyone seen Breaking Bad on AMC?
Pretty funny - the dad from Malcom is a high school chemistry teacher and gets involved with making crystal meth. Alot of chemistry references.

Eastern Promises was good.
Juno was ok.
Meaning to watch the Kingdom and Zodiac.
