Any recent AF HPSPers have trouble getting the AF to pay for their move to their residency base? I have several navy friends who got moved and it didn't cost them a penny when they graduated med school, but the USAF has nothing on their website to indicate that they will pay for this. Anyone know?

Thanks.

Once you have orders, contact the TMO office at a base near you. They will pick up and move your belongings to your new location. Otherwise, make an appt with a rep from the TMO and find out what you need to do a DITY (do-it-yourself) move. If you opt for this route, you pack, rent a truck and move your household goods yourself. The AF will reimburse you a specified amt that the TMO personnel should be able to give you.

Traffic Management Office. There's one at each AF installation. TMO/SATO is the office responsible for coordinating moves and commercial travel tickets.

I just finished AF HPSP and moved from Cleveland to San Antonio. My wife and I had the military move 10,000+ pounds without any costs to us. This included having someone come to pack it (day 1), someone come to move it out(day 2) and someone come to move it in (day 14). They have 14 days to get it to the destination and they took all 14 days for me. Being that you will be a captain, you have an allowance of 12,500 lbs that you can move. More weight and you will have to pay extra money. If you want full insurance on your goods you will also have to pay extra money. I just went with the run of the mill insurance and paid zero out of pocket. They actually contracted out the move to United Van Lines for my move. The movers were very pleasant and I had the truck drivers cell phone so that I could periodically check in with him to see where my furniture was at the time. Best of luck.

Great information here, but to add to it. One of the benefits of being in the military is that they will move you at generally no cost to you. I say "generally" because if you go over your weight limit, it may cost you a little money out of pocket. (BTW...I moved seven times over my career and never went ove the weight limit.) The TMO office can give you a pretty accurate guess of how much weight you have based on how many rooms are in your home.

I'm sure you've moved in the past and know what a royal pain in the a** it can be....but you will make money if you move it yourself (DITY). Lastly, if you do let the military move it, I suggest that you don't let them pack valuable heirloom type, non-replaceable, items. Sometimes stuff does wind up missing or damaged. So pack that seperately and take it with you. We're all familiar with Murphy's Law..... :meanie:

Best of Luck!
