OK, so I still haven't signed a lease, and school starts 7-30. I'm hoping this rental application I just sent in will be aproved, and have decided to take tonight to start packing somethings (take these clothes, send these to santa teresa...). So you could say I'm making some progress, but it's not much.

Anyone else still need to find a place to live/move?

Don't start till 8-13, but I figured I'd start looking hard the first week in july, in case the place I find is a month by month setup. Then again, I live right in the area, so its a lot more convenient to go apartment shopping.

My husband and I are closing on our new house at the end of July and will move in ~Aug 1st, but we haven't sold our old house yet. Yikes, two mortgages!😱 It's on the market, but there aren't that many people out looking.
tuition + 2 mortgages = never ending debt

I start Aug 1st and last night the wife and I finally just picked a rental house and hopefully will get the app in this week. We just signed up some renters for our current home we're in now and won't be able to move down until the weekend before I start........that'll be fun.

I kinda started early, and signed a lease early this month in June. I start in August, which is a ways away. However, I'm so excited to be going to medical school and I don't want anything to mess up my first and only experience there so I've left myself plenty of time to get moved in and settled before the big day. I plan to permanently move there by the end of next month. Besides, even though I'm paying an extra month of rent (the first month of rent was free due to it being the summer), I'll be able to be flexible when I have to move in two years to be closer to the hospitals for 3rd and 4th year.

Similar story here, but I've already moved into my new apartment while my old house hasn't sold yet. 🙁

Talk about YIKES! Once we've got a place in abq, then we still want to add a coat of paint and new carpet to our condo and try and rent it out! It just seems so back@sswards to be renting a place in abq, while someone else is renting our place in sf. If it weren't for med school I'd say I'm friggin crazy!
(my poor husband).

however, I am almost through with 1 closet!

The house I'm trying to sell is in SF. Good luck to both of us; the market's sloooow!

I'm glad to know you moved to ABQ, though. I thought the commute would be hell. My husband was worried about me driving on 25 late at night regularly. NM is the land of driving down the freeway the wrong way, after all.

First of all, damn owlet, must be nice to be able to pull a home in SF. That is raw.

For me, we closed on a house yesterday and will probably move in about 2-3 weeks before school starts (8-13) to get settled in. Seems like a pretty casual pace. Could be done a lot quicker (particularly renting,) so no worries all you people feeling late.

Same start date, haven't even found a place yet. Just got off the waitlist.

AHHH!

I start Aug. 2, but we were blessed that a family friend out there did the footwork for the apartment and put down a deposit. If they didn't do that, I would have been starting my search like the day before orientation. We'll fly out to the east coast around July 24.

I already have an apartment, but I still have no car and no DL. I know, I know, it's stupid, because I've been putting it off until now. I despise driving, although I'm getting better at not hating it so much.

About the moving part, well, given as I don't have any furniture...I'm not that stressed. I'll have to stress about that once I'm there.

Procrastinators unite!!!

I have an apartment but I'm putting off all the stuff like getting my internet/cable/phone hooked up. I need furniture, a computer, and other random things that I'm also putting off.

I start 8/3 and will probably start looking for a place mid-late July (most places in OC want you to sign for immediate occupancy). But I'll probably stay living with my parents until right before school starts. In fact, I'll probably go to the first Orientation day on the 3rd from my parents house and then move into my apartment the 4th/5th. But I'm not sure yet.

We had two mortgages for almost 3 months the summer before med school started (a year ago). It was a bit nervewracking, and we almost couldn't make that last month's payment (holding our breath for a sale, knowing we COULDN'T make the next month's payment. Then we sold (for a lot less than we wanted) and everything was ok.

Good luck! I'm hoping we don't have to do the same thing for residency.

Hey, I'm a nontrad and we bought a fixer-upper 6 years ago...

Closing on a house July 20 (three weeks before school starts), contingent on the settlement of my current house, which is under contract to a buyer who has a buyer for their home. In other words there need to be two other successful closings before I can successfully close on my new house. Talk about nerve racking :scared: Let's hope that the domino effect happens without a hitch!

I have no clue where I'm going to live or how to find a place b/w now & when classes start. Haven't applied for loans yet, either. How's that for procrastination? 😀

Wow....good luck though!! We just got our home rented out for when we move and am just going to rent for now. Couldn't imagine having to add the stress of selling our place and buying another.

But, we aren't able to move until 2 days before I start orientation....so that's not going to be fun.

I see a lot of people have been able to find tenants/buyers for their current place before they have a place to move to. I haven't been too active on that end (though I've been told my a nursing travel company that they're 90% certain they'll have contract nurses needing housing come august) simply b/c we don't have a place to move to first.
Even tho we're still waiting for our rental application to be aproved, do we still need to have a 'move date' and get movers, contracters, etc?
:scared:😕

We just got a place, although we don't start until middle/end of August. But the current tenants are staying until July 15, so she is letting us move in the middle of August. We got lucky, the place is near school and really cheap so we just took it right away.

I also just ordered a new laptop, and now I need to buy furniture of some kind. Or at least a mattress.

Last year we started around Aug. 8, and we moved the last week in July. Moving sucks so much that I'm all for putting it off as long as you can. We did pick out a place in June, but we got stuck paying rent on it for July -- we probably should have waited on that one.

Yeah I start in mid august... I have no place yet... i'm on a waiting list for a nice place.. but I have a feeling that is going to fall through...

I took care of it...went up a couple weeks ago to Buffalo and scoped out housing, sent in an application, and now I'm approved and everything. Just gotta mail in my deposit but it's my apartment now 😀

Gonna move in around July 20th or so even though school doesn't start till August 6, just so I can get myself settled in.

My move-in date is July 16th, school isn't starting until August 20th...I'll have some "settle-in" time.

I'm actually kind of glad I found this thread. It makes me feel a bit better, since today was the first time I really thought "****, I've got to find a place... soon!" I emailed around today, and it seems like alot of my future class has already signed leases, etc. But then, I was only admitted to the school I'll now be attending a little over a week ago, so, I suppose I'm not procrastinating that much.

is anybody else having their car shipped? any recommendations for auto delivery companies?

so i decided to hit the housing boardlists/craigslist because of this thread...school starts in early august, so ive gotta get a place set before the mad rush of uber-procrastinators begin to scramble and take whatever housing opps are left...

Well the first house got rented already, but there's two more to go. We'll see one on Thursday (it looks good from the pics the owners sent), and if we like we'll just put $ down on the spot.

Then there's OUR home... It'd only take a week max to get new paint and carpet, but we still need to find tenants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
