I was an undergrad bio major initially aiming for pharmacy but got convinced to switch paths to medicine. I ended up doing the ECs MCAT etc and received 2 MD and many DO interviews three years after graduation. I was waitlisted or rejected at all the schools I applied to and decided to go back for engineering and am almost done now. It was a humbling process going through the admissions process and I think this field is only for people who can’t see themselves doing anything else and aren’t in it for the money... which is why they require so many activities. I hope some 20 year old out there is reading this and thinks about whether this is the field for them... wish someone had done that for me. If you like helping people and aren’t doing it for money prestige etc then stick with it otherwise find something else. I’m very happy with where I’m at now and believe I will enjoy my career in the engineer field. I have a lot of respect for those willing to undergo multiple cycles and school residency etc.

I’m happy you found a field you enjoy and I wish you the best on your career path!

Thank you I appreciate it! It took a long time for me to figure out what I wanted to do and I have enjoyed my classes instructors etc. They do a really good job making sure we come out with jobs afterwards. I have been able to intern successfully the past two summers and have enjoyed this line of work. It’s tough and things always change but I can’t imagine doing anything else. I think the engineer classes require different set of skills though then medicine/ pharmacy classes though and that’s been an adjustment for me. My GPA is much lower at the engineer school.

To quote the great Kenny Rogers:

Know when to walk away and know when to run."

I have a lot of respect for you for making the leap to explore other options! Best of luck on your future endeavors!

requiring the activities isn't about purity of motives, it's about supply and demand.....something to weed out the crowd

Yeah I imagine that it was different in the past... still think that motives are important though. It’s a tough road and not for those looking to be rich and famous.

I'm sorry, but you don't really know a lot about this road.

I do wish you well on yours though
