So, as usual, I waited until the last possible minute to pack my house up for my move to CO tomorrow and WHAT A MISTAKE it has turned out to be!!! I decided I would start packing yesterday, only slept 3 hours last night, and have been packing truck, trailer and car alllll daaaaaaay today. I just need to reach out to some fellow moving students and say ain't that about a bitch. To anyone who hasn't started their moves yet let me extend a word of advise... start early because you end up with way more stuff than you ever thought you had. I guess it all comes back around to the positive though because VET SCHOOL STARTS IN AUGUST!!! 😛

haha. wow, that sucks. luckily i'm moving up in my trailer, so even though i do have some packing to do... i'm taking my house with me! >sigh of relief<

i do have to try to sell my shed though b/c i can't take that to auburn. anyone know anyone in the tampa florida area that wants a nice shed? 😉

BTDT - the last time I moved all my stuff anywhere, I ended up with 24 boxes marked "Miscellaneous"! 😱

I feel your pain! Best wishes with your move.

ugh the last move i had to make was from college back home (and it was huge, i had a studio that i had furnished myself). i had to pack everything into an open trailer, and it was hell! i lost a bunch of clothes, basically everything got scratched/dented/covered in bugs (ew)...it didn't matter how tightly it was packed and how strapped down everything was...ugh man that was basically the worst day of my life.

qtk - safe travels. see you on the other side of the rockies soon!

edit - for inspiration on the long journey:

AHHH I am so not looking forward to the over 1,000 mile drive to Missouri. ugh ugh ugh. Anybody else been dealing w/ really rude apartment personell?? We've been calling apartments in Missouri and one women was just aweful! My SO asked what their pet policy was and after she said no pets she wouldnt answer any of his other questions b/c "it didn't matter b/c they wouldnt take our pets." When he tried to explain that we dont have any but want to get some she just hung up on him!

that really sucks. have you tried apartments.com? you can specify certain criteria and then get a list for only the ones that apply to your situation. also, maybe contact the school and see if they have a housing website for the vet students? i bet you would find some pet-friendly places on there. good luck :luck: (and that meanie deserves a kick in the ol' keester)

I just finished my 2000+ mile to Michigan. It was not so bad (drugs for my screaming cat and car sick dogs + audiobooks are life savers!)

Now I can't figure out how to work my new shower (or it is broken😱)

I just got back from trying to find an apartment in Knoxville, and there were only 2 that made the cut. There were some much cheaper ones in a different part of town, but they wouldn't take dogs or they'd only take 1. (Hello, package deal here!) So finally I found one for more money than I'd like and farther away from town than I'd like. Sigh. I feel your pain ratbandit.

Chris, what'd you use for your cat? I think one of my cats will need something. I was thinking of trying Dramamine...thought I read about it somewhere on VIN. I am making the 3000+ mile trip to New Hampshire in about 1.5 weeks! Yikes!! I think I'm still in denial - I don't think I'm really moving, and certainly not that far. I am still trying to get an apartment sorted out! The office manager and head technician have been looking for me, and I think they found me a place. Not 100% everything I wanted, but mostly so.

I did find some pet friendly places, but at least 2 of them would only let people 22 years and older live there! I thought I was over this crap after I turned 21!! I think I'm just going to have to settle for no pets my first year...or just kick my picky SO out (his requirements: 1st floor, w/d in unit, central air, the list goes on and on). I got a quote for a u-haul, over 1200$ - is that normal?!

Read some of the previous discussions about U-Haul - it's a no-no!! Use Penske! Penske is MUCH cheaper and more reliable (i.e. the trucks don't break down much and they really have a truck waiting for you after you reserved it).

I have a Penske truck reserved for my upcoming move (1.5 weeks away)...

I used diazepam at the anxiolytic dosage. It worked great. She was slightly groggy, VERY friendly, quiet and ate VERY well on our stops in hotels (all La Quintas, very nice pet friendly hotels)

I second the Penske recommendation. I used them and didn't have any problems. My 16' gas truck got 10.5 mpg so I was very happy.

I am sitting here wishing I could be panicking about moving but I don't have a place to move to so I am worrying about that instead! I feel like I am behind on getting housing--is this true or am I running out of time?

there is ALWAYS housing in worcester....haha it is the second biggest city in new england, so there is no need to worry 🙂

yeah, definitely do not worry about finding a place around here... I work at Tufts and there are tons of postings for apartments and people looking for roommates (and most are pet friendly!)

and like silverelf had said, you can always find a place in worcester.... I lived there for 5 years... if you need some help finding a place, send me a PM... I would be happy to help! (oh yeah, and my place is opening up August 1st as I head on out west... 🙂 )

we were just there this weekend and found a pet-friendly place in one day, in marlborough (partner needs to be near commuter line to boston). there are plenty of rental listings (particularly in worcester), and a lot are pet-friendly. we thought a lot of the places we saw were total dives and were amazed at the condition of some of the places owners wanted to rent (it provided a lot of comic relief throughout the day!), but you still shouldn't have any trouble finding a place in the greater boston or worcester area no matter when you start your search. good luck!

Thanks guys, the quote for Penske was way better!!!

U-Haul ended up being cheaper than Penske for me. Guess it depends on how far you are moving...
