I have a question about myelodysplastic and myeloproflierative disorders and their progression to AML--mainly the myeloproliferatives

Correct me if Im wrong. In MDS, you have dysmorphic cells which do not fully mature resulting in pancytopenia If there are additional mutations, cells completely fail to mature and thus you have a rise in blasts --> AML

If i am not right, please correct me.

Then, do myeloproliferative disorders also become AML by acquiring other mutations that will result in increased blasts --> AML?

Or basically, how do you get increased blasts in MDS and MPD to lead to AML?

Thanks,

Well for one, Myelodisplastic Syndrome is known as "Pre-leukemia"...so that should give you some insight for that. It also usually happens in older people and can progress to AML. You can diagnose MDS based on % or blasts in bone marrow. Should be <20%. where as AML will have >20%. Hope this helps!

Ha Ha, no not at all actually (not being a dick, that just didn't answer it).

However, I was able to answer my own question eventually. Thanks for the help anyway.
