MPH Fall 2018: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OUCH.... Got rejected from UW. :grumpy: This hurts because I went there for undergraduate and thought I had a pretty good chance at admission, even though I didn't major in their department. Congrats to all UW acceptances - UW is a GREAT school and you guys will love Seattle. If you have any questions about the school and location you can always PM me.

I got rejected from UW for epi too 🙁

Same!! Definitely a shock to me since the one school I thought I wasn't getting into was UC berkeley but I guess its UW. Even though I thought I wasn't going to go there it definitely hurts a little bit.

I definitely thought I was going to get in but underestimated the competitiveness. I thought I was a competitive applicant because I did a lot of undergraduate research on campus and even got a university-wide award. I am still so shocked... like I can't even... :stop:

I am right there with you. I had years of research under my belt. So shocked.

I'm so sorry to hear about this, it definitely hurts to get a 'no' from your alma mater. I've commonly heard it's actually harder to get into your undergrad institution for your master's than it is for a later doctoral degree (something about wanting you to go out and explore academically). That honestly may have something to do with it. You're obviously a tremendously strong candidate and will have other very strong options, although take some time to be disappointed. Hang in there!

I also heard that as well, especially at UW. My boyfriend graduated magna cum laude but didn't get into UWSOM even though they prefer instate applicants. :cyclops: Honestly even though I knew this it still sucks to be rejected! Thanks for your kind words!

Weird. My Emory application was just sent for review although it was completed almost two weeks ago. I wonder if this will affect my chances of acceptance.

I saw that you just took your GRE on 1/6. I think they need complete scores before its sent for review.

Yeah, they received the GRE scores on 1/17. So I thought it was sent for review around then. That's why I was surprised when I saw the email this evening.

I submitted/was verified in mid-December, and it was at least a week (maybe two?) before my app was sent to my first choice department for review.

Anyone have their Michigan HMP interview yet? I have mine tonight and could use some insight!! 🤔

I had mine yesterday....I don't feel good about it 🙁. Make sure you really nail down the "why Michigan" question. The questions were...tell me about your academic background, why Michigan, then ask questions. Even after talking about the work faculty members do and how it ties to my own interests, I felt they still wanted more on WHY MICHIGAN. So nail that down. Good luck!

Literally all I do is refresh since I was told I'd have a decision by the end of the month...which it is haha
If it makes you guys feel any better I got one from the specific department as opposed to the school itself so it might just be policy that sent theirs today! Good luck!!

I work in higher ed currently, I assume the discrepancy is because the acceptance is going back and forth between different offices (registrar, financial services, academic department, etc.). The registrar might flag accepted students immediately in the system while the department uploads acceptance letters in batches.

I interviewed with the department chair last month. He only asked me two questions: 1) Passion about HMP, 2) My experiences in WHO since I've done my internships there during the summer. It took like no more than 10 mins but I asked him a lot of questions later.
