  1. Pre-Medical
Hey all,
I was in a discussion with my boyfriend, it is inevitable that I will have to take classes over. My gpa is horrible..I just don't know what i was thinking. I mean I will probably get it to like 2.8 by the time my university tells me to kick rocks, maybe but I mean damage is done. There are a lot of Cs,Ds, and Fs. Still I am fighting to stay in the running. I'm going to get into medical school somehow, new plan is to do postbac and graduate school. Thing is I am starting to get interested in public health. I have recognized that public health is not a hard science. So my advice that I need from everyone is A. should I get a hard science degree and public health. B. Public health and try smp C. just do the hard science (i'm technically trying to get into med schoo) or D. Any other option you may give. Another question, can you do a dual master's or it depends on the university you go to? I don't know how I let myself fall this far, I must admit I am quite ashamed and I do know why. Is it really possible to get back into the game with these types of grades if your trying to mend what you have done. Thanks for the advice thanks!

ps no i have not taken mcat, but ecs and lors are no problems

Graduate school will not make up for a poor undergrad GPA.

Your best option is to retake all classes you did poorly in. DO schools use the most recent course grade to calculate your GPA, so it's relatively 'easier' to raise your GPA if you're open to going that route as opposed to the MD route.

You could do an SMP, but the typical minimum cutoffs are a 3.0 GPA and a 28 MCAT (this varies a bit depending on the program). Keep in mind that SMPs are very expensive, and you always run the risk of doing poorly and wasting time & money. Be certain that you're mentally prepared to devote the time necessary to kick major ass if you do an SMP.
