Hi All,

I know there have been some similar threads, but just wanted to ask about MPH degrees or other 1 year Masters programs. Just had a file review with a school that rejected me, and they said a masters could help with my GPA and show that I am able to handle work load similar to vet school work load. I'd love to get my MPH, since I already thought a lot about DVM/MPH duel degress.

Anyone have any advice or thoughts about good programs for MPH, or master's programs??

thanks!!!

Hi,

I'm interested in public health too, and I also considered going for an MPH if I didn't get into vet school. Have you looked at the sophas website to see what kind of programs are out there? If you haven't here is the link:

However, all of the programs that I liked were 2 years. Ohio state has a good veterinary public health MPH that I'm pretty sure is still accepting applications until May 30th. I also liked George Washington's infectious disease MPH. I'm sure there are schools that don't use sophas that might be less than 2 years. I hope this helps!

That sounds like an amazing idea! Looking back on my application cycle, in hindsight I realized I would have been better off doing an MPH (or at least starting it) during my second year of re-applying to vet school. However, I didn't really know much about it then, so I can't really kick myself in the butt just yet 😀

But I would say that if it's something you want to do with your DVM, it can't hurt to atleast get it started. If I were you, I would look at what schools the vet schools you want to go to or think you might be accepted to next year go through for their dual DVM/MPH if it's not at that school already. Then you can start the MPH through the school they go through, that way things transfer over. However, I know for instance with Western University, some of the classes you take in vet school first year count towards the MPH, so I don't know how that would work out for you. But just something to keep in mind.

Good luck!

Thanks guys!! This has been really helpful! 😀
