MPH Question

This may sound like a really dumb question, but why do people do MPHs?

Can't we just take more undergraduate courses through extension schools/non-degree special student programs or stay another year to graduate and take more BCPM courses during our fifth year??

Do medical school not prefer/hate students taking 5 years to graduate or taking classes from extension schools? Cuz I would rather take classes that would help my undergraduate gpa rather than pursuing MPH programs.

Once again, this may be sound like a dumb question as I am not knowledgeable with medical school admission, but I was just curious about this.

I may be misinterpreting your post but it seems like you're assuming people only do an MPH as a way to get into medical school. There are many people who do that but it's definitely not necessary. I would agree with you that if you just want to take some extra classes for medical school admissions purposes, it makes no sense to do an MPH. Best to spend an extra year in undergrad, take post bacc classes or do an SMP.

However, many people, myself included, got their MPH because they have an interest in public health. An MPH is a professional terminal degree for many who have no desire to go onto medical school after.

Getting a degree in public health to do public health is a thing. As underwhelming as it sounds, it's a pretty nifty field. Though the CDC would be a hilarious place if it was populated solely by premeds on their backup plan.
