in this age- what use is an MPH (master of public health) in the world of dentistry, what can it do for one in terms of professional credentials and position placement- extra responisibilities and the extent of them and change to earning potential...any real life scenarios would be nice-

thanks

p.s. me again- i meant and MPH WITH and DDS/DMD...

In theory it will help you more accurately address the needs of under-represented communities, along with being more aware of the general needs of the public sector.

The MPH is built into the curriculum at Arizona (save a few courses), so I'll be obtaining one.

Although I'm not fully committed to serving in a public capacity, I do want to be aware of, and capable of, serving in such a role.

In general I'm very interested in Bio-statistics, health care information systems, and public health financial management, so I'm looking forward to the MPH coursework.

a master degree will be highly appraised for dental graduate applicants who wish to apply to specialties and academic dentistry!

As matter of fact, any graduate degrees (MBS, MS, MPH, MBA, PhD, JD, etc.) behind your DMD/DDS will be looked highly upon in your specialty application.

my pursuit of my MPH has landed me into Columbia Dental School, which i start in August. i was below average in DATS and GPA, but they liked my stance in dentistry.
our health care system is moving towards a more Public Health oriented stance (almost like socialized medicine). If our health care system cared not to take this stance, gaps in socio-economic, racial, and gender disparities will grow only larger, leaving a tremendous burden on the younger generations in terms of paying for the large and in charge baby-boomers.
what does this mean for dentistry? i can talk forever about it,
but the most important thing is that an MPH will develop a very unique voice, and you'll learn to love dentistry not for the money-- (i find so many people are too caught up with the money thing 😡 )
simply put, an MPH will open up tons of doors in dentistry, or any medical/health profession.
i always rave about the degree. like the stock market, for all you money hungry children, it's worth investing your time for an MPH right now.

Hi,
I would like to know what are the requirements to get into an MPH program at NYU/ Columbia/ Boston ?
What kind of fee structure should one be prepared for?
Is giving NDBE part 1 useful before applying to these courses?
Any info about MPH would be really useful.
Thanks

i didn't take the gre's to get into my mph program (at umdnj)
BU and UMDNJ both accepted my DAT scores...if you've taken your DATs, which i assume you have, that's all you need in terms of standardized tests.
other than that, i just applied with the application and letters of recommendation.
honestly, any mph program will eat up current dentists/doctors.

take care smilemaker
