Has anyone here done a Masters in Public Health (MPH) prior to dental school?

My real question is: Does it stand out (in a positive way) to admission committees or is it a waste of time?

I did a year of MPH coursework and decided that it was a huge waste of time. The dean of admissions recommended it, but in reality you don't take anything that is very demanding of you (academically). I applied to a post bacc program and got accepted so I had to cut my ties with the MPH in order to pursue something that would actually help me get in.

It really depends on your situation though. If you're borderline competitive, I would talk to the schools you're interested in and see what they're opinion on it is (cause that's what really matters).

Um, I think it might be due to your speciality too. I am doing an emphasis in epidemiology and biostats. If you want to be a research dentist, I think it would look great. How else are you going to crunch all those stats, like for oral cancer, or develop a community oral hygiene program? But it is prob best to speak to the school of your choice.
