I realize this might be somewhat low yield--I just wanted to clarify the difference between Penicillin binding protein 2A and PBP3. If I understand it correctly all of the penicillins (including pipercillin, ticarcillin) bind to PBP2A. Resistance conferred by the mecA gene from Staph can result in an altered pbp2a which is the reason for the resistance in MRSA. Aztreonam binds PBP3, which is completely separate and unrelated to PBP2A right? Do cephalosporins also bind to PBP2A? Can't seem to find that info.

Also, would a mechanism of resistance to aztreonam be mutation of pbp3?

Many thanks
