I have a few questions as an incoming MS1 student at UNECOM. What do I do for health insurance for my wife. I know I am covered but I can't find anything on their website about family coverage.

How was MS1 for everyone? Did you have time to spend with your significant other?

I have to really get everything together fast as I am moving from Arizona and I have to sell 2 cars and a house ina month. Talk about stress. Any advice would be great.

Hey rescuerdave, I found the info on the web-site. It reads:
Annual student premium: $1,250
Annual premium for spouse/ domestic partner: $2,957.
Annual premiums for one or more children: $1,771.
Annual premiums for spuse/partner and children:
$4,728.

Ouch! I too will be paying for my spouse come December. See you in July

Best Wishes,
JJ

Thanks JMJ. Do you know if the $2957 is for me and my spouse or if it is plus the $1250 I will pay. If it is only the $2957 that is a better deal than going private. AETNA scares me, they have a pretty big class action lawsuit against them out here in Arizona and 30-40% of the providers they had dropped them this year because there reimbursement was so low. Maybe this is not a problem in Maine.

Dave--

Check out SOMA's (Student Osteopathic Medical Association)Student Health Insurance. You have to join SOMA (not a bad idea, anyway) for $60 (covers all 4 years), and my premium is $63 a month. There are several different plans, and you can add a spouse and child(ren) for not too much more. It is not fabulous insurance, but it covers pretty much 80% across the board, and has reasonable yearly limits for a healthy person. $20 copay for Dr. visits, $20/$10 generic meds copay. Ask Dr. Mom--I am pretty sure she posted something about it not too long ago, and I think she has family on the plan as well.

It's a way better deal than the insurance offered through my school, anyway.

Good luck with selling your house and cars. Been there. I feel your pain!

Dealing with a significant other while in med school is easy.
