MS1 Summer Experience Question

This summer, I am hoping to get some research experience completed. I don't have anything specifically in mind, but I have always thought that working in Cancer research would be pretty cool.

The only thing is that I will most likely be trying to be in a specific location this summer (first option Atlanta, second option New York).

Does anyone have any good advice about how I can go about finding summer research opportunities for first year medical students? Should I just try calling specific medical schools (ex: NYU or Emory) or is there a more formal way to go about finding this information?
