Are SIR medical student summer research internships adversely impacted by funding issues thanks to recent federal actions?
Doubt it
On Reddit (granted it’s Reddit and not the gold standard for credibility), there is chatter that summer research and research year are getting impacted.
And what are the sources Reddit gave? I am genuinely curious because programs from SIR, such as GEMS, Women's Research Mentorship Grant, and others, rely mainly on donations and other non-governmental sources. Talking with other section leaders there was no sense that these would be impacted. So something like SMIP would be even less likely, but maybe this is funded by government grants.
I don’t think foundation grants are impacted but foundation grants are less than 50% of the funding that supports research year and summer research.
