MS2 requesting research advice

Hi all,

I've read these forums for quite some years without posting, but have a question to ask you guys, so I registered.

For all of first year and up to recently, I wanted to do Internal Medicine, which is not competitive at all. For this summer, I signed up with a prof and have applied for some research studentships in some "internal med research".
Thing is, however, I am now interested in Dermatology. Knowing how competitive it is to get in, I would like to get some Derm research experience, or do something to improve my chances. What do you recommend for me to do? Continue with the unrelated research and do some Derm case reports on the side? Thanks!

If you're an M2 shouldnt you worry about the step this summer?

I go to school in Canada, so USMLE is optional

O ok, if thats the case I would definitely try to get in something related to Derm. Case Reports would work, although less beneficial then other types of research.

yeah...I've already got my eye set on some good derm research projects, BUT a few months ago before I realized I wanted derm I already applied for a grant for another project. Is there any possibility of bail- would I be the biggest ***** if I quit?

Its better to let them know now up front that you no longer have any interest in it as opposed to last minute. I dont think they can fault you if you are really up front with them, but if you arent it can come back to bite you in the ass.
