It seems likely that I'll end up with surgery as my first MS3 rotation, but there is still a chance I could change it. If I want to do anesthesia, will this hurt me since I'll probably be less likely to impress attendings at this point? I'm possibly overthinking this. Is surgery the most important MS3 rotation to do well in for anesthesia? Thanks!

Def are over thinking it. I've yet to have any interviewers ask me
About grades during MS3. More important thing is to set up a rotation with anesthesia and get a solid letter

I will also agree with the advice above. I had surgery as my first rotation, I'm pretty sure the attendings/residents have lower standards at the beginning of the year compared to the end. Just work hard, read, try to be the best team player you can be... and try to not be a jerk! You'll be fine!
