Hey All,

Fourth year DO student and I applied to VSAS too late and the few that I've heard back from are already full during traditional audition months. As such the only audition rotation I've secured is in January and I'm wondering if that's too late to make any impact on my decision or the decision of the program.

Thoughts welcome.

i dont think its too late as programs usually dont make their rank lists till middle of febuary however I do not really think "audition" rotations in anesthesia are really that helpful. I did 2 of them, didnt match at either place and really didnt much out of it. By the nature of our field its very tough as a medical student to stand out, all you can really do is intubate which really is not that impressive, you dont really have any substantial anesthesia knowledge base and usually will just end up with the resident/midlevel for the majority of the case. I think its actually easier to hurt yourself then help yourself in these audition rotations. Anesthesia knowledge base is really hard, if attending starts pimping you usually it will be respiratory physiology or anesthesia pharmacology neither of which as a medical student i felt very comfortable with. If you are a killer student maybe you can standout but in general from my experience and the experience of my peers I feel its really not worth it. Usually each away rotation will end up costing 1-2k comfortably.
-just my 2 cents
