I was going to buy a used MSAR 2011-2012 online, but by the time I got around to it, the cheap ones were already sold and I am hesitant to pay 85 bucks for this book...anyone know if they made a lot of changes from year to year? I can get a pretty cheap 2010-2011 one. Thanks!

$85? The book only costs $25.
Hmm I don't get it then...all the ones on amazon are 85+
You can buy it directly from AAMC:
https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/requirements/msar/
It's only $25 for the book+online access

you the best
Holy crap, I need to start selling msar's on amazon.
Best thing to do is buy the online version! You do almost everything on the computer when it comes to medical school application: write the essays on the comp, fill out the app online, request LORs thru email etc. It makes sense to just buy the $15 dollar MSAR online too!
Not only does it offer all the important things that the book offers, it is also easier to use because you can use filters and such.
Sure you get online access with the book but why spend the extra ten bucks to get a book?

I can testify that it's easy money. Last summer, I got the 2011-2012 MSAR as part of a package deal for purchasing the Official MCAT Study Guide from AAMC. Since I wasn't going to apply until this year's cycle, I held on to the book until March (the month right before the new MSAR was released) and then posted it for $60 online. In less than two weeks, someone bought it. I'm not sure why they couldn't wait until April to buy the new one, but I'm not complaining 😉.
