This is a really interesting question, i think. here's the scenario. every year a school that has, let's say, 100 seats, will end up accepting like 200 or so students. obviously this works because some end up not going there, thus they don't overfill the class even though they accept that many.
OK. so when you hear that a school is "full" i usually take that to mean that they've accepted at least as many as the class will hold. in this case, at least 100 students. but obviously they have to accept more people or their class won't be full in august. so do they get ALL of these extra people off the waitlist?
i ask because let's say someone goes to interview at a school after it's accepted 100 students. will that person be put on the waitlist automotically, or can they just be accepted right away? in other words, do schools end up with the 200 accepted students that appears on the MSAR by accepting 100 from the waitlist? is it possible they would initially accept 150 for the 100 person class (before the waitlist) and then as spots are dumped, they fill in the other 50 acceptances that appear on the MSAR from the wailist?
it's a little complicated, and i want people to completely understand the specificity of this question before they post. but i may not have explained it very clearly. anyway, what do you think?
the reason i ask is because i'm interviewing at a school which might have already accepted enough to fill it's class, and i want to know if i'm interviewing AT BEST for the waitlist..or is it possible that i'll be accepted right away.
