Why are the MSAR and USNews numbers different? For example, the total number of students who applied differs in both.

Don't know, but trust the MSAR.

Bringing back to the top: anyone have any ideas?

I read somewhere that one set of numbers includes everyone who designates a school on their AMCAS whether they complete a secondary or not. I would think that would be the number reported to USNews because it would make the school appear more selective, and thus move them up in the rankings. In the MSAR they might want to give more the impression that an applicant has a chance to encourage applications. But I haven't checked the numbers, so don't even know if that's the way the numbers vary. Is it?
