Hi guys,

My TPR course gave me their "Best 162 Medical Schools" book for free and I was wondering how does it measure up to the MSAR. It tells basic stats on the students accepted, admissions criteria, deadlines, telephone numbers, tuition, email and snail mail addresses, etc.

Does anyone who has both care to share his/her opinion?

How often is the TPR book but out? The MSAR is an annual thing so it has the most up-to-date info and it is straight from the source, the AAMC and doesn't rely on surveys ala USNEWS and TPR.

I would rely on the MSAR if anything is different between the 2 books.

My premed advisor said the TPR is a piece of sh1t that is full of mistakes. Get the MSAR if you need to look up stuff

Seconded.

Agreed. TPR is outdated and plain bad.

Rely on MSAR and official medical school webpages for information.

Hahah best 162 medical schools? There arent even 162 medical schools in the US! Last I heard 126+20 = 146 medical schools. I assume they're including canada.. but its virtually impossible to get into a canadian school from the US..

i have the TPR book, and yes, they include canada, carribean and osteopathic schools, so it's not so much the 162 BEST schools as it is 162 ANY schools. i thought it was useful for skimming and creating an initial list of schools i was interested in, but once i had a list of about 30 i narrowed it down using the AAMC and schools' websites. and yes, a lot of the info in there is factually wrong (including some pretty obvious typos). but it's useful as a see-what's-out-there tool.

MSAR no doubt. TPR just makes me laugh.

Private books like these are just made to make money.

On a slightly different note, how much does the 2007-8 MSAR vary from the 2006-7 MSAR? Are there any new features? Anything to make it worth buying this year's as well?
