just some random stats: the site will be recieving its 20,000th visitor shortly, and of the students who interviewed at my school this past fall, 95% of them had seen the site prior to visiting and almost all mentioned that it changed where they applied to some degree. not a scientific survey - but whatevs.

for those of you who have visited the md/phd site i run, you know that it is updated most frequently in the fall/winter when i recieve reviews from students, and quite infrequently at points other than that. a few comments and requests from this community:

1) for those applying, please remember to take notes and make reviews for submission to the site. the interview process at many schools has changed as a direct result of these reviews, and some programs have undertaken structural changes based upon some feedback (the latter is more limited). if this was helpful to you while applying, i'm sure those after you would appreciate your experience.

2) please let me know if there are any other sections/information that applicants or current students would like to see up there. i can't promise anything, given my limited time, but some things would be easy to do.

3) the site is coded in a rather sloppy, inefficient manner (my doing). if anyone would be able to make a simple submission mechanism (php/mysql/anything else) so people can submit the reviews and retrieve them more efficiently, that would be wonderful. i know these are relatively simple things to do - and i would figure it out if i had a bit of time ... - so if you have any ideas let me know.

4) if someone with suitable knowledge of web stuff would like to take over the administration of the site/updates for however long they felt like it - i would be interested in such an arrangement. between the lab and setting up a free clinic at the med school, i wouldn't like the site to be neglected in the upcoming year(s).

thanks.

I really love the site and it has been very helpful for me in this whole MD/PhD application process. One thing that I think would really help improve the program reviews section is a discussion of the strengths of a particular school in certain research areas. Some of the reviews already do this, but it would be helpful to know which schools students think are strong in areas like neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, cancer research, etc.
