I Interviewed this year for the EM residency at MSU KCMS. pretty impressed. However I found out through sources in writing that the program director there is leaving his spot soon due to the opening of the Western Michigan University medical school. He is going to be taking on as the associate dean at WMU. i got wind of this and emailed one of the residents who gave me their info and they confirmed it.

If anyone else interviewed there, did you guys have the 'co program director' sit in on the interview with the pd? in my interview, he was sitting there eerily not saying a word, kinda like shadowing the pd. i was even more freaked out that pd didnt mention wmu at all in his hour+ long presentation.

anyways, i dont like that it wasnt mentioned at all, and i really dont want to be the guinea pig for a new program director. im def not ranking this place as highly anymore. has anyone else gotten wind of this?

I assume this means he's leaving. Def lowers this program for me too, he was kinda the reason I wanted to go there.

I spoke directly with Dr. Overton today. He is NOT leaving the KCMS Emergency Medicine program and will continue to be the prgoram director even after WMU's new medical school opens in late 2014. His job at that time will be director of GME so even IF he eventually steps down to assistant PD, etc, the PD will have to run everything by him. He has also hired even more core EM facutly (there were already 36) to help with delegated tasks. Hope this helps!
