Hello Everyone,

I was just curious to get some perspective on my situation and my chances. I'm a Michigan resident. I have a 28 MCAT (11P/8V/9B). I have a 3.3 cGPA and a 3.0 sGPA. The thing that is really hurting my GPA are my computer science courses. I'm a double major in computer science as well as biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience at the University of Michigan. I have over 1000 hours of volunteering as a grief support group facilitator for children. I have a fair amount of shadowing experience. I have not shadowed a DO yet, but I might have one who will be willing to let me shadow him soon. My recommendation letters are pretty solid and I have quite a bit of research experience (I completed my senior thesis in cognitive psychology last semester). I feel the biggest thing hurting me is my GPA. Do you think my GPA is decent enough to give me a shot? Do you think MSUCOM or other schools will consider that my weak courses are my computer science courses as opposed to my biology, chemistry, and physics courses? I'm just trying to get a read on my situation and determine if I have a realistic chance at MSUCOM. I really would love the opportunity to go here. I also really want to go DO, I think it suites my career interests better than MD does and I'm trying to communicate that in my application. I appreciate the help with this.

Thanks.

I apologize for the confusion. If you are correct I would be very happy. I was told by my pre med advisor that computer science courses did count in the sGPA for DO schools.

A lot of premed advisors can be useless. AACOMAS does not use computer science courses to calculate your sGPA...

I appreciate that. Schools will independently calculate my cGPA and my sGPA correct? I misclassified a couple courses which led to the confusion. So in reality I have a 3.15 sGPA. Given that plus everything I've said before do I have any kind of shot at MSUCOM?

Do you have a upward trend? You are middle-of-the-road with your MCAT, so your stats are lower than avg. EC's look pretty good though, but you will need to shadow a DO, and soon!
