So I have not seen much info on this on MSUCOM school specific thread so I wanted to post it separately for anyone who is in the program or applying to it now to answer some questions I have:

1. If you have been interviewed for the dual degree program and recommended to apply to grad programs, does this mean a guranteed medical school acceptance?
2. If you get accepted into graduate school then do you get automatically accepted into the DO/PhD program or is there another formal interview process for that?
3. How specific are you in your research project description for grad school in your SOP?
4. Finally, how established is the program at MSU? Is there support from advisors through your progression in the program?

I have been interviewed via skype and recommended to apply to grad schools, which is what I am working on atm.

i asked once before but no reponse. I have a feeling that very few people apply to this and majority probably dont use SDN. Ill post it now

There is a user who posts frequently in the MSUCOM specific thread for this cycle who is a current DO/PhD student there.

Yeah the activity is much less on there :/ at the best attempt you can email MSU-COM admissions and ask them if they can connect you with a current DO/PhD student.

I know MSU and OU-HCOM have DO PhD programs but are there anymore? I was so interested in these initially but I don't think I can handle the time length of the program.

I got you PlaqueBuster! Current DO/PhD app as well.

1) After I Skype interviewed I was told to wait for my acceptance to the DO program and than apply for the PhD program. The director also heavily implied that I would get accepted to the DO program based off the interview. You have to get accepted to the med school first before you can get into the PhD program I think.

2) Once you have gotten accepted to the med school you have to apply for the PhD program and interview separately for that. if you get accepted to that as well than you are still not guarantied a spot in the dual degree program. The program has limited finding and Dr. McCormick has to pick a select number of people who can enter the program.

3) Get relatively specific in your grad school app. You have to show you have significant research experience and that you know both the methods and theory behind what you are doing in the lab. Not sure if they do this for everyone, but the Do/PhD program office edited my grad school apps and made corrections they knew the grad program would like. Very helpful.

4) MSU has the best DO/PhD program in the country. They have the resources of Michigan state to really help you excel in research. There is plenty of support that participants in the dual degree program receive, prob more so than at another school.

Hope that answers all your questions.

Found out today that I got waitlisted. This really stinks because I really hoped to move on with the DO/PhD process and my impression from the interview was that I was well liked, hence I was recommended to start the grad school apps.
