Just a quick question. Does anyone know how the alternate list at MSUCOM works? Is it just a ranked list created by the time we applied, or the time we interviewed? Or is it where people are re-evaluated when a position becomes available? Each school is a bit different, and I've emailed the admissions people, but at this time of year they are understandably busy. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you

It's a ranked list made when you apply. When you're put on it, you're ranked something like this: they give you a number from 1 to 9 or 1 to 10 (can't remember which) in either diff. areas or by diff. people of the adcom and I don't remember if 1 is the highest or the lowest, but that's how they rank you. Then when someone else sends in their secondary (like if you sent yours in in september and someone else sent theirs in in january), they get ranked and put into a spot where their number fits in. The top third of the waitlist are immediately offered spots for the following year (2007 enterance) and if they happen to get bumped down to like the 35th percentile because more people have applied, their offer isn't taken away. Hope that was helpful!
