Hey guys, I am looking for a bit of advice here. I was considering going into OT in undergrad and then I ended up entering an MSW masters program instead and have regretted it ever since. I am finishing my MSW in the spring but really want to apply to OT school. After spending more time in SW I realize OT was def the route I should have taken. I would only need to take A/P I and II. I am wondering if this will look too wishy-washy/indecisive or if my MSW could be seen as an advantage. Also, should I apply this session (2019-2020) assuming I can complete A/P I during the summer and A/P II in the fall (will still be pending during most applications) or wait until I have official grades for both classes? Here are my stats and facts as of now. I would really like to go to GA State as I live in Atlanta and will be graduating from their MSW program. It is clear to me now that OT is what I want to do. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Undergrad: University of Georgia-
Major: Human Development and Family Science
Certificate: Disability Studies
Cum GPA: 3.7
Pre-req GPA: 3.54 without A/P I and II (hopefully will go up assuming I make As)
—I made a B in stats and abnormal psych. However, I have taken a graduate level research class and graduate level abnormal psych class and made As in those. So should I retake the undergrad??
Grad GPA: 4.0
GRE: V: 155, Q:149, AW: 4.5

Observation: 16 hours outpatient adult; 50 hours outpatient pedi; will collect more betweeen now and July

Exprience: volunteer with inclusive sports, after school program for people with disabilities, hippotherapy (all 2 years go); Gigi’s Playhouse Atlanta volunteer; internship with grandparents raising grandchildren program; intern with non-profit helping adults with DD live more independent lives; intern with International Rescue Comittee (nonprofit working with refugeees); Academic coach at GA State (counseling undergrads to help the succeed in college); hospice volunteer (50ish hours); Direct support professional (500ish hours); planned parenthood votes

Projects: created disability training and resource guide for grandparents raising grandchildren program; created disability sensitive training for handling eating disorders and other sensitive care taking; working on project related to negative health effects of Plant Vogtle on vulnerable citizens in surrounding area

You will need to have a grade in at least one of the A&P’s by the time you submit your application. Most won’t look at you without it.

I can’t really speak much about what schools are seeking, as I am not an admissions counselor. However I will say that I have a cohort friend who has a masters degree in exercise physiology and was accepted to our program. So I’m sure it would be fine for you as well. Plus already doing graduate level work will show you can handle the rigors of the program.

I had a BFA in Musical Theatre and an MA in Literature and I became an OT 😉. I had a classmate who also had her MSW, and I think it's a great background to pair with OT, especially because of our holistic perspective and roots in mental health. You might be ale to do some really cool work once you graduate.

I absolutely think your MSW will give you a greater advantage as you look more credible. Holisticstudent.com has really good tips for the application process if you need inspo/advice

Looks good. You just need the A/P grade.
