If a resident is geographically restricted (i.e., wants to stay in the same city due to sweet spousal income and proximity to family support for small children) and is planning on doing two fellowships, is it not advisable to apply for multiple positions, at the same institution, in the same year?
I have only one option for Surg Path, but there are two local programs for Cytopath. I'd rather stay at the same program for both years, and am flexible as to the order in which I complete them--but, is this going to be perceived as reasonable or "indecisive" by program directors? I would like to think this is something easily understood after less than 5 minutes in an interview, or explainable in a personal statement, but I don't want to commit a faux pas when I submit one (0r both) applications in July. Thoughts? Experiences?
