I have been searching this question a bit on SDN and have so far have only really found a lot of info for dental schools, and some rather negative (but limited) feedback regarding veterinary schools. Has anyone ever been in a situation where they felt they should or did put down multiple deposits? Is there any real way for two schools to know you did this?

I think we may need more info: what's the reason for hedging your bets? I know you(we) have more than a month to decide. Are you anticipating a change in your life (and hence your plans) in the near future?

My gut feeling (if the above is true) would be to call each school and see how they can handle on their end.

Are you applying to dental school and got in and still waiting on vet school or got into one vet school, but are trying to decide if you want to become a dentist or vet? If you only received an acceptance to dental school, but really want to go to vet school more, I don't see the harm in sending in a deposit to dentist school and then waiting for news from vet schools. Not sure if that's an OK thing to do or not?

Haha, I'm sorry. I probably was not clear enough. No, I want to be a vet, so I only applied to vet schools. It's just that when I was searching this subject on SDN, only threads within the Pre-Dental section popped up.

And I am not really comfortable stating the precise reason. But would the agreed protocol would be to call schools, and not submit multiple deposits then?

I don't see anything wrong with sending in two deposits when you have extenuating circumstances in your life that require it. And we don't need to know what going on 🙂

You know you will lose one deposit; that's your choice. I dont think the school is going to hold anything against you when tell them you can't come. You wont be the first (hence several people make if off wait lists throughout the summer).

I should add, I don't think calling the schools will allow you to not send in deposits (unless that resolves your choice in school). Am I missing part of the picture?

If you have personal reasons why you need to hold spots at more than 1 school beyond the April 15 deadline, there's nothing stopping you from sending $500 down the crapper. Obviously the earlier you can inform the school you're not going to the better, so the next waitlister can get called off sooner rather than later. But people get called off the waitlist even on the first day of school, and there are always bodies to fill your spot. So I don't see a prob as long as you have legit reasons

🙂 Thanks, you guys! This is kind of what I was thinking, that it would not really be a problem, but I wanted others' opinions.

Out of curiosity, does this involve any of the carribean veterinary school? I know they have had earlier deadlines in the past.

No, it does not 🙂
