I applied to 14 different schools. So far I have 5 interview invites and 0 rejections. I have already scheduled 3 of those interviews. It's getting very pricey, and I'm thinking about turning down some of the interviews.

I'm curious if any of you who are currently in school received multiple interviews but turned many of them down, and if so, if you regret doing that and why. I know when you look at the big picture, another $1000+ bucks for flights and hotels isn't that much, but right now, the reality is - that is a lot of money.

Interviews: Nova, Case, University of Nebraska, Buffalo, and Creighton. (I'm a Utah resident.) 3.87 Overall, 3.79 Science, 20 AA, 20 TS, 24 PAT. I'm thinking about declining U of Nebraska and Buffalo.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I went to a Nebraska interview with similar stats last year (I am a Utah resident). It is really expensive to fly there from SLC and I wish I hadn't gone there for the interview.

i would go to them all as well. But maybe schedule the two you are thinking of declining for after dec 1 as a backup just in case..

Go to them. You may be surprised. I had a high interview to acceptance ratio, but others have not. Cast your web over the most opportunities you can. It may seem expensive, but waiting another year is even more expensive!

I would go to all of them until you get an acceptance letter in hand-unless you absolutely would not attend if you received an acceptance. Early interviews at Case usually result in acceptances. By going you will learn quite a bit about how dental schools are different from each other so that you will be able to make a smart choice if you get accepted in several schools.

Money seems like an odd thing to be worried about since three of your five interview offers come from private and costly schools (even with possible WICHE) and you'll be paying out of state tuition at the other two. $500 - $600 is peanuts for an interview that might ice your ultimate choice.

same idea... i would go to all of them since an interview doesn't guarantee a particular spot. In fact, it is great opportunity to practice your interview skill for you top choice school.

Not trying to scare you.... if you look at predents.com, some people had five or more interviews but with no acceptance letter. if getting into D school is your priority this year... go to all of them

That's just my take

if you applied to the school, you might as well go to interview until you are accepted elsewhere. if you ask around you will see that many people can go to many interviews and not get accepted. statistically interview/acceptance ratios run about 4/1.

I'm getting a little worried about this too. It's getting to be expensive...but even putting money aside, we're going to miss a lot of school (those who still have a year/semester left). I've always balanced extracurriculars outside of class time so missing class for interviews is going to be a new challenge.....hopefully grades won't slip.

Hey there,

I'm also in the same boat as you... so far I've gotten 5 interview invites out of the 7 I applied to... and since I live in CA, most are far away! (UtSA, uconn, buff, upenn, exception: uop). I was also thinking about whether it was worth it to go to all schools since for me, it is extremely costly and my parents can't help me. But when you think about it more it may be out of the way but like everyone else said, its important to maximize your chances, and also for you to see what schools might be a good fit! Because honestly I think its hard to choose a top choice when you haven't even been to the school yet. If you get interviews for all 14 schools, then I dont think you have to go for them all but I think for now 5 is still okay. As you get more you can probably pick and choose which ones you feel are more important to you. Also what I tried to do was schedule the interviews that are farther away around the same weekend (thurs fri and monday) because it will definitely reduce my costs of traveling back and forth from west coast to east coast!

Go to every interview until you get an acceptance in your hand. Why would you bother spending the money to begin this process and then just stop once you get an interview from a school you want. An interview does not mean you are getting in. Dont blow an opportunity. Sacrifice a little $ now and you will thank yourself later

Must be nice.....I dont have ANYTHING lined up as of now.

Not going to a particular interview is a risk. But depending on how confident you are, you might decide not to go to one/two. I am not going to my NYU interview and I haven't yet started regretting it 🙂.

then what's the UoP thing you got going on in March? or did that just happen. and why is it in MARCH already??!

Oh that's from last year. I interviewed for an alternate sprt last year and I made it. They sent me a letter sayingI dont have to interviewed again and my file will be favorably considered when they're making decision for the 1st group applicants for acceptance. It's not for this cycle

Go to all your interviews, and go get a job to pay for it. Stay at hostels, and stay for an extra day or two. Turn in into a mini vacation, and it'll be worth your money going on so many interviews.

if you do not see yourself going to that school do not go. If you undecided but have no money, schedule yourself after Dec 1 so you can cancel after you get your acceptances your top choice. Limiting yourself to less interviews is risk. Only you could decide if it is worth taking.

Well, Is your dream school one of those 5 schools that you've been invited to?... If you attend all the interviews, would you have $$ for the later invites (assuming your dream school has not invited you)?

That all sounds wonderful... if I wouldn't be missing school.
