How much do the SOB’s steal from the pathologist worker bees/minions?
A lot. Ten figures. How much do the SOB’s steal from the pathologist worker bees/minions?
Nattering Nabobs of Negativism all of you. Working for one of these labs offers the benefits of no hospital BS politics, no business/marketing, steady flow of guaranteed work, regular hours, no beeper/call, no CP, no hospital admin, no autopsies, no tumor board etc. That's worth making 40 cents on the dollar and if you are good, you can fly thru the cases and make bucks. Don't be a jealous hater!!!How much do the SOB’s steal from the pathologist worker bees/minions?
If that happens, all should be good! The problem is the whole business model of over testing, over billing, revenue sharing etc.Nattering Nabobs of Negativism all of you. We are talking about an organization the paid the feds 10s of million of dollars for fraud. Right now a private equity company is trying to clean house . Stability of this organization is a concern.
You might be looking for another job in couple years. Maybe Boswick labs are hiring?
Even if they are successful, it is likely that there will be a lot of pain that can trickle down to staff pathologist.
When you get caught screwing HHS and patients both, its a tough turn around from there.
With hospitals and now insurance companies buying up physician offices, there won't be much of a market for labs like this one.

Think I read somewhere that United Healthcare now employs 30,000 physicians. They are in a race with hospitals to buy up physicians. Sell your lab to an insurance company and get their work!
The business of private anatomic pathology niche market where everything goes has run a full circle. Now same people headed for hospital business.
Add $1.5B loss of market cap among other tbd things when truth comes out.We are talking about an organization the paid the feds 10s of million of dollars for fraud. Right now a private equity company is trying to clean house . Stability of this organization is a concern.

I understand your position and agree with you that it has definite advantages.
For the those ready to jump in the bandwagon, and have other alternatives, I would like to remind them that
1-40% (of 88305-26) is likely from private MD groups POLs. A 25% cut would be more likely from commercial labs.
2-The major drawbacks for physician office labs (POLs) are uncertainties. It is good as long as:
a-payers are willing to allow physician office labs and group is making money.
b-the hiring group does not come across someone willing to undercut you.
3-for the commercial labs, you are the front bumper. Your wage and job security are the first to be sacrificed in case business downturn.
4-for both, commercials and POLs, a good portion of extra-income comes from unnecessary over-usage and higher fees.

Yah this entire line of business is pretty much dead at this point in the American Health Care Economics evolution.

You don't think it's going to try to come back? I keep reading that the current administration is trying to weaken or eliminate the stark law and similar regulations.

True,
It is impossible to know this will play-out.
One possible result maybe allowing health systems to pay more to employed physicians out of hospital operations cash rather than physician fee schedule cash.
This would allow for more purchases of physicians practices.
GI and surgical subspecialists have been a good place to remain separate with ASC ownership.
Hospitals systems want that business back. Loosen Stark and you might see greater movement of ASC owners to sell to hospital systems??
