Since I've heard rumors about Ontario Veterinary College switching to multiple mini interview format, I thought some of you may be interested in the article Maclean's recently had about it:

http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/09/16/let’s-all-play-doctor/

It does offer some tips about the process.

Although the article cautions against practicing for MMI's, I personally believe it is useful if you use it as a method of practicing how you will formulate/communicate your thoughts in the interview and not as a method of memorizing answers.

Anyways, hope you find this interesting!

Awesome, thanks so much for the link!

I'm applying this year to OVC, so their newly implemented MMI style is a little bit daunting for me...A friend of mine applied to medical school this year, and experienced both the traditional 2-1 interview style, and the MMI at the different schools that she applied to...She personally liked the MMI style better, saying that even if you went to a station and did poorly, you got another chance to redeem yourself (so to speak) at the next station...I think both interview styles have their pros and cons, but regardless I'm still terrified of the interview period, 2-1 or MMI! 😛

I went through both styles for University of Calgary Vet Med (MMI) and Western College of Vet Med (3-1). They definitely were both daunting!

I kind of like MMI because it's less about memorizing information/"right answers". In MMI, there are usually no true right answers but it's more about how you explain yourself and your thought process. Like your friend mentioned, there is also a bit more room for error because you have multiple stations!

I did a few practice scenarios with my friends including the amount of time the real interview allots for each station. It gave me a good sense of how long I had to think of an answer, and how long I had to explain it. I found that made me a lot less nervous on the day of the real thing!

Good luck with the interview process this year! Just have fun with it, I'm sure you'll do great!

I actually met with an admissions rep from OVC at Guelph during her visit to my university today, and I asked her about the MMI rumors. She informed me that OVC plans on starting the MMI format for NEXT application cycle, and it will only be for Canadian applicants (I am a US applicant). Hope this helps!

Hey! Thanks for the information!!! Hopefully you're right...Do you by any change know that name of the lady that you spoke to??? If you do, could you PM me with it? Thanks so much!!! 😀

And are you applying to OVC??? Awesome! 😀

Thanks so much for the luck! I'll need it! 😀 If you don't mind me asking, do you remember any of the questions you had at Western and Calgary??? I just want to be able to answer every possible question they could ask (yes, I overprepare...I know...😛)

Thanks! 😀

Yep, I sure do have some questions!

I actually have them in Microsoft Word documents but if you PM me your e-mail address I'll send them to you.

To clarify to everyone asking me for MMI questions: I do NOT have any questions to freely distribute.

As with other schools running the MMI format, I was required to sign a confidentiality form at my interview. The questions I was referring to were regarding the traditional interview format.

I doubt sharing the MMI situations would even be beneficial as they would almost certainly be different at each interview. The best bet is to look up scenarios on the internet or make up questions between your friends/pre-professional club, and practice running through them. There are no "right" questions and no "right" answers for MMI -- that's the fun (and nerve-wracking) part of it!

I also interviewed MMI, although at VMRCVM. While you can't exactly prepare for most of the questions, you should know some of the traditional questions. If they aren't actual interview questions/scenerios, they might be something that comes up in a scenerio. I didn't find the MMI more or less stressful during or after--before was worse. The plus is that you have multiple scenerios and interviewers--if you mess one up or don't click, you still have other chances. On the other hand, it was really stressful knowing that you could be interupted at any second by a bell, then running out the door w/o a backward glance.

I really liked the MMI at VMRCVM. Most of the questions were very broad, so I was able to twist many of them so I could talk about my favorite subject--food animals!! Work it to your advantage!

Thanks for the article, I'm applying to OVC for 2015 and I'm a Canadian applicant haha..my university's holding a couple MMI seminars since our medical school also uses MMI though so hopefully those will clear things up for me.
