Hey guys,

So I've just finished my sophomore year at a small private school and I transferred to this school from a big school in the East cost. Now, I'm transferring again to a California public school for my junior year. The decision is set and done. How will this look like for med. school applications? Two transfers...three different school...

I doubt anyone will care. They may ask you to explain at interviews though, so be ready for that.

how does the application process work then? Will I have to send all 3 transcripts to every school I apply? That's like a grand worth of transcripts

No. There is a centralized application system. You send all your transcripts to them (I think they're called AMCAS) and then specify what schools you want to apply to. They will send the information electronically to the schools. But yes, the application process will likely cost you several grand.

You will not need to purchase any transcripts. Also you must send transcripts from any college you took a class at. Since I did dual enrollment at a CC during HS and I studied abroad with UC Davis, I had to request transcripts through AMCAS from UCSB my home school, UC Davis, and my CC. You'll have to do something similar, but really its as easy a printing out a form, signing it, sealing it in an envelope and chucking it in the mail.

It completely depends on the reason you transfered.

Transcripts are not always free. All of the schools that I've attended have charged a fee to send them.

I agree with others that it depends on the reason for transfer. Anecdotally speaking though, my husband transferred twice during undergrad (the second time because I got a job in a different city), and he's headed to med school this fall.

I transferred because I didn't like the school. Then I transferred again because the location was too far from home..valid reasons?

It depends. If you're grades are good at all 3 schools I doubt anyone will care. If you're grades were lower at the two previous schools then it will look like you left because you couldn't handle the rigor of that institution

That's fine. I think transfers would only be an issue in certain circumstances. For example, you transfer from a top 10 to a state school because the top 10 was too hard. Or you do what someone I knew did and transfer from a top 20 to a much lower ranked school during the year you take orgo, and then transfer back to your top 20 the next year. Or you transfer because **** was about to hit the fan (about to be dismissed for bad grades, about to go to the honor council for a case you knew you wouldn't win, etc). You get the idea.

I transferred from a small liberal arts to a top tier private school. I also had a gap semester where I was not technically enrolled anywhere and did a study abroad program (through SIT) on my own. so technically enrolled as a student there for one semester.

I had to send all transcripts to AMCAS and they all cost me money (i actually sent in 5 transcripts because of one summer course after graduation and one summer course from high school they wanted)

I also heard that transfers have a lower acceptance rate, but that stat seems a bit misleading because of things like people transferring from CC's or doing other fishy transferring. I got asked about it at my interviews but it ain't no thing. as long as you didn't transfer "down" should be no problem.
