Hey folks! I have a question or two about anyone OOS who has applied to MUSC. I'm from NC (and of course I also plan to apply to my two state schools). Is MUSC a school that prefers regional OOS students? I know they aren't super friendly to OOS applicants, but will it make a difference that I'm in NC? On another note, does MUSC give in state tuition to students after a certain period, or are you pretty stuck for the duration of your education? I know all about how expensive the school is, so I just didn't know if they were flexible with their tuition status.

I can't help with your second question, but I applied as OOS so I can give some insight on the first question-
Early in the application process they called me to figure out if I had any ties to SC - my ties were pretty weak (vacationing in the area, family with houses there, possibly wanting to work there later in life, etc) but they were enough to get an interview. So if I were you I'd definitely call or email them early on and let them know any ties to SC that you might have since that seems to help with their decision making process.

I don't think they let you switch to in-state. Even if they did, they are INCREDIBLY expensive!

In state tuition (nothing else included!!!!) is $63,691.
Out of state tuition (nothing else included!) is $95,505.

Both of those figures are just for D1.

They also say that your books are $4,532 for the year and are "required," so I guess this number is set in stone.

Unless there is a large reason why you would need to attend MUSC, I would not have it high on my list for the cost alone. It is outrageous.

MUSC accepts mostly in-state students. However, they are increasing their seat for OOS in the last few years.
