Can muscles alternate between being antagonists and agonists depending on the movement?

Also, I know the MCAT could try to put a lever passage using muscles. I know EK had a practice passage like this. Is there some literature or good internet resource that can help me understand how muscles work as levers in the body?

Thank you,

Verónica

1. Yes, absolutely. When you perform bicep curls your biceps are the agonist and your triceps are the antagonist. When you perform tricep extensions the roles are reversed.

2. Hmmm. Yes, that is actually a favorite question scheme and very high yield. Way back when I remember that both my physics textbook and the Kaplan book that I explained it pretty well. I haven't reviewed this subject in a while, but this website looks like a good start. http://www2.hesston.edu/Physics/BodyMech-LB/lbresearch.htm. You need to find a few practice questions somewhere to make sure that you really understand it (like anything else) for test day--hopefully one of the other premeds knows where to find some.
