Would anyone care to discuss this specialty? I don't really have any specific questions, but would like to know what current residents/docs have to say about it. My thing is that musculoskeletal radiology would probably be my first choice of a speciality, but I don't know that I'd be terribly interested in radiology otherwise. How competitive is the MSK fellowship? Any insights would be appreciated.

I have only grapevine information, but my understanding is that it is a popular - and therefore competitive - fellowship right now. With the job market tightening up, I would expect it to become more competitive in the near future.

I've heard the opposite. I've heard the saturation of the MSK market is changing how competitive it is.

Damn, that's discouraging. Is it really that saturated? Not that I'm shy of competition, but I always wanted to do something individualistic.

Even if you did MSK fellowship, you will not do 100% MSK in private practice. You may spend 30% doing MSK and the rest general radiology. That's pretty much true for most areas.

Thanks for pointing that out. One of my concerns is that I'm only really interested in the anatomical details of the musculosketal system and that I might not like general radiology. So maybe I'm on the wrong track here.
